Default Mr. Rebates

Anybody have a referral for this site? I want to sign up but thought I'd give somebody some referral love.

I joined Mr Rebates some time ago but then quit. Read the fine print regarding getting credited and getting paid. It didn't sit well with me. I prefer the tracking and quick posting of rebate info on Ebates and the set payment schedule. Of course, some people use both and/or Fat Wallet, and that's their/your perogative, but I like sticking with one place to accumulate my rebate total and I believe Ebates is the single best place.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Silly me, I discovered I was actually already a member.

I also prefer Ebates and Fatwallet, but Mr. Rebates is one of two sites that has a kickback for existing Ebay members who buy things on Ebay. I was making an Ebay purchase anyway so I thought I'd get the Mr. Rebates kickback. It will take me a million years to earn enough on Mr. Rebates to get a check, though, especially since I mostly stick with Ebates and Fatwallet.

I've personally had good experiences with Mr. Rebates myself and have found that their cash-back is higher on many stores plus I get paid monthly instead of quarterly. IMHO.

While I'm sure one is able to earn a good amount of rebates using Mr. Rebates, the fact is that Ebates offers higher cash-back most of the time (more than twice as often as Mr. Rebates.) IF one shops at certain specific sites/stores that happen to be the ones that Mr. Rebates offers more cash-back on, then Mr. Rebates would be the way to go. Otherwise, Ebates is, as a matter of fact and figures, the better of the two.

Here is a quick list I put together of some of the most popular stores and the respective rebates offered by each service:

JCPenney
Mr. Rebates 3%
Ebates 4%

Kohls
Mr. Rebates 2%
Ebates 2%

Lands End
Mr. Rebates 3%
Ebates 3%

Old Navy
Mr. Rebates 2%
Ebates 3%

Sears
Mr. Rebates 1%
Ebates 2%

Shop.com
Mr. Rebates 4%
Ebates 5%

Target
Mr. Rebates 4%
Ebates 4%

Barnes & Noble
Mr. Rebates 3%
Ebates 3%

Buy.com
Mr. Rebates 3%
Ebates 1%

Best Buy
Mr. Rebates 1%
Ebates 1%

Circuit City
Mr. Rebates 1%
Ebates 2%

CompUSA
Mr. Rebates 1.5%
Ebates 2%

Half.com
Mr. Rebates 4%
Ebates not offered

Office Depot
Mr. Rebates 2%
Ebates 2%

OfficeMax
Mr. Rebates 2%
Ebates 4%

Staples
Mr. Rebates 4%
Ebates 3%

Enterprise Rent-A-Car
Mr. Rebates 1%
Ebates 2%

Hotwire.com
Mr. Rebates 2%
Ebates 2%

Priceline.com
Mr. Rebates 3%
Ebates $3

Expedia
Mr. Rebates not offered
Ebates 1%

Total stores/services considered for this listing: 20
Ties: 7
Mr. Rebates: 4
Ebates: 9

As an example of what I referred to above, about shopping certain stores: In this instance, if you frequently shop at Buy.com and Half.com and less frequently elsewhere, you would do better through Mr. Rebates.

However, across the board: Its true that this sampling, and other comparisons have shown similarly, that one can expect roughly 45% to favor Ebates, 35% to be 'tied', and 20% to favor Mr. Rebates.

In other words, if you made a three column list with the headings, "Mr. Rebates, Tied, and Ebates", you would put the vast majority of stores/services in the Ebates or Tied column. That's not a knock on Mr. Rebates in any way, its just a matter-of-fact.

Bottom line: If you know what certain stores you plan to shop/build your rebates from, then just make your own list and check both. It will be clear then which service is best for you. If you want to shop a broad range of sites without pre-determining where you will shop/buy from, etc. then Ebates is best. Of course, many people join both. I don't like that myself because I'd rather consolidate my earning of rebates to one service (also I like getting paid after reaching a level of $5.01 [Ebates] instead of having to reach $25 [Mr. Rebates]), however, there is no other real reason not to do so if you wish. If you wanted to join two such services, I believe these two are the best ones to consider.
