Default Had a wow of a time at the footy

HI all, Last night Hubby and I went to the footy to watch my cousin play footy. He plays for a team called the Canberra Raiders who are in the NRL (National Rugby League). Canberra is about a 6 hour drive from us so when they come to play our local team (Newcastle Knights) we go and support him.

It was a great night. Especially as we got one ticket free using our entertainment book. We didn't buy any drinks while there either. Yet another saving. Probably just as well coz I only have to look at a beer and I have to go to the loo.
Saved money on parking too as we drove 500m down past the stadium and parked for free on a side street.

We got seats on the fence (cost $28) just behind the goal posts so we had a good view. Although it bucketed down hubby and I were warm and dry under our rubber backed picnic rug and plastic sheeting.
So for a total cost of $28 we had a night to remember. But as we only go once a year I would pay much more.
Which events, sporting or otherwise, do you go to where money is not a consideration in whether or not you attend.

28 dollars for a night out is pretty reasonable if you ask me. Glad you had protection from the rain. By the way who won?

I really can't think of any events I would go to where money isn't a consideration. I always think about the cost. But then I don't like sports either. I do like music concerts but won't pay more than about $45 for a ticket.

NFL is too expensive to consider.

I really liked the local soccer games back in NY -- the team was close to moving up to the major league after the new soccer stadium is finished being built (currently they play in the baseball stadium) -- tickets were only like $12 each though for the bleachers on the sideline which was the best view (in my opinion).

The local baseball tickets were also cheap, but the team wasn't so good so it wasn't as much fun to go to as the soccer games.

I've been to some of the Rochester hockey games as well as the Buffalo Sabres games but that was a few years ago, and I'm pretty sure the Sabres tickets are more expensive now.

Newcastle won. Though being a Novacastrian and having family in the Canberra side I had an each way bet on picking the winner!

I'm not a huge sports fan either. The game we went to is the only sporting game I go to during the year. The atmosphere was exciting but I had absolutely no idea what was going on.
When I eventually get to visit the US I would love to go to a major league baseball game or NFL match depending on when we go.

I always buy dh and oldest son tickets to an NHL game for Xmas...I don't worry too much about the cost. Two out of the last three years, my boss at work gave me the tickets as a bonus!

I did buy dh a ticket to Grey Cup for his birthday last year, as well. That was a little pricey, but worth it to him.

It was rugby league. Rugby union is similar but there are different rules. Then there is Australian Rules which is completely different and of course soccer. They are all called "footy" or "football" so context is important. Can be very confusing!
