Exclamation Budgeting in a Game

Hi, I'm playing The Real Game in CALM (Career And Life Management), and I have to do a budgeting assignment. I haven't done budgeting before and I know nothing about paying bills so it would be nice to get some advice from anyone who is willing to help

So, my gross monthly income is $5 000.00 and $4 000.00 after deductions + Partner monthly income = $4 400.00 which is my net monthly income.

Around how much does a person spend on shelter with this income for a family of three (husband is still attending university and doesn't work, 3 year old son)

Shelter~ Rent or Mortgage, Utilities (heat, light, telephone), Maintenance (repairs)

I would say about $2900 a month on mortgage, utilities, and maintenace. About 35% would be my guess.

I sortof played something that sounds similar as a kid.

Shelter costs vary Greatly from place to place...there aught to be a web tool to help you guess for your area.

(if you are in Charlotte Nc, mine is a little under the average at around 1,200)
