I find empty plain surfaces very restful. Clutter can make me feel very anxious. I don't need things to be super clean-Some dust and germs are more okay with me than a lot of knick-nacs.

PrincessPerky-- that's a good point.

As my boyfriend has pointed out, I'm notorious for making "piles" but when it comes to actually putting the "piles" where they belong, that's another story. (i.e. important papers to file, magazines, etc)

I'm trying to work on just not having so much clutter.

I've noticed something about myself of late.

Whenever I plan to have guests over - the house sparkles!
Yeah it's like magic! All that procrastination stuff goes flying out the window!

All those clutter piles get zapped! The kitchen floor shines, the toilets sparkle!
It's amazing!

It actually makes me want to have people over...

In fact, it's my only motivator!

I don't feel like throwing stuff away or even donating. What if I will need it next year or something. Will I have to go to the store and spend $$ again? No way! I will throw stuff away only if it's absolutlely useless. Instead of throwing away, make a garage sale, sell it on ebay, or get some kind of use from it.

Did anyone else get a spam email claiming to come from this forum thread?

It describes a chain letter get-rich-quick scheme.

Correction: I have three copies of the same message from three different threads. What's going on?

Here is an explanation about that spam thing.

The guy joined and then posted that message on EVERY thread. It was around 5:00 or so yesterday evening. But Jeffery (or someone) was VERY quick and deleted the messages as he posted them. So, if you weren't on the forum while he was doing it, it might have been confusing to receive all those emails.

Recovering? What is this "recovering"? I am an active clutter-holic and procrastinator! Heck, I was going to reply to this thread yesterday, but I couldn't find my keyboard beneath all the books and papers!

Funny you posted this thread. . . I am interested in becoming a moonlighting professional organizer. I am a reformed slob. I feel that I would be a great organizer because I know how frustrating clutter can be and how it can zap your energy. Also, I know that if I can overcome it, ANYONE can!

To become an organizer, I am starting with my home. Over the last month, I've organized the following:
-china buffet
-Master BD closet
-2 linen closets
-pantry
-den closet
-guest bedroom closet
-medicine cabinet
-my car

Things I still need to organize or are still in-work:
-kitchen cabinets
-office
-office closet
-husband's car

Also, I'm lined up to help my aunt organize her junk room.

If you want help, National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) or On-line Organizing provide a referral system so you can find a Professional Organizer in your area.
http://napo.net/
http://onlineorganizing.com/FindAnOrganizer.asp

Besides in-home organizing, an organizer can provide counseling and on-going support for clutter bugs.

i'm still trying to find our balance... i do like it clean and free of knickknacks but then procrastination and cluttering of "useful" items still tends to pile up... and yeah, we move those piles around...

I am admittedly rather anal so....

I don't usually have problem with clutter. Or rather, if I do, it usually doesn't last for long.

I also have to qualify that by stating I only have to clean up after myself.
