Default Hardcore Drugs to be Legal in Mexico

Did you hear how mexico's president vincente fox plans on signing a bill that would make it legal for indivdidal users with small amounts of everything from pot, meth, heroin, coke, barbituates, amphetamines, etc. to possess these drugs? The idea is that they can focus their enforcement efforts on the big time dealers.

This would be a disaster for the US. Just think of the thousands of young people pouring into mexico so they can legally sustain their addicitons, and think of how much easier it will be for naive young people to 'experiment' with dangerous, habit-forming drugs.

And they want us to be lenient with illegal aliens????

I heard about it, fortunately, he decided not to sign the bill like he had planned to. They are going to re work it instead.

Yeah, i heard about this! It absolutely gives another reason why we need closed borders. Imagine how much more of these drugs are going to make it into the US.

Also, Fern, you mentioned about people going there to get their "fix." Well, I know some college students out in California that already do this with alcohol. They go down their on the weekend because you don't have to be 21. So, I definitely see it happening with the drugs if they legalize them.

They want the addicts to be allowed to get their drugs and not get arrested.

Yeah, except those 'bums' are US citizens who will return to the US with enhanced, entrenched addictions, thereby adding to the drain on healthcare services, crime rate and loss of productivity those Mexicans are wanting so much to make up for.

Well the amount of money spend on the 'drug war' and the amount of jail space taken up with the additcs (that would be a medical problem) I can see the rationality.

I don't think it's a good idea. Though Mexico is already too leinent with perscription drugs too & other contraversial medical proceedures.

I agree college kids would choose Mexico 4 spring break moreso than they already do because of their laws being so leinent

I recently heard someone on the radio, (it might have been Rush), talking about building a wall along the border with Mexico. Is this a serious consideration? We have been such good neighbors to them, it's a shame that they can't cooperate with us and respect our laws. Instead, their government encourages them to come here illegally, and now the drugs. Like our drug problem in the US isn't bad enough already. This issue affects me personally since a family member on my husband's side was in a coma for a few weeks. Now, he's in a post-comatose state which is similar that the one Terri Schiavo was in. The cause was drugs & alcohol. Don't Mexican leaders realize the devastation that drugs cause?
