Fast Food and Credit Cards

Just recently, two of my friends had an issue involving their credit card while visiting two different Wendy's. My friends are members of completely different age groups; one in college, the other approaching retirement. They are both very honest and reliable people, so I believe everything they told me.

So, what was the problem? Fast food employees stealing credit card numbers, names, etc.

My college friend was a the drive thru and noticed that the cashier had their back to her. They were hiding something and when my friend tried to see what was going on, the cashier was moving so she couldn't see. Then she got a glimpse. The cashier was holding her card up to another employee and they were putting the number into their cell phone! My friend immediately called her credit card company and got them to cancel the card.

At a different Wendy's, my other friend got his information stolen as well. He thought something was suspiscious so he called the company and had his card cancelled as well. BUT, in this case my friend called Wendy's corporate office and all they suggested was that he go to a different Wendy's!!!! How outrageous is that!!!

I tried googling, but I haven't been able to come up with anything. Has anyone heard of this happening before?

I just thought some of you might like the warning. It definitely makes you realize that when you had your card over to someone at a store, it might not be the safest thing to do.

Thanks. I think charging fast food to a credit card is not a good idea!

I use my CC like debt cards and so I use the all the time. I have for years. I am careful to watch it all the time they have it and always double check the amount. I also watch the transactions on line carefully. I've never had a problem....knock on wood. Yes, you have to be careful, but if someone is determined to do wrong, nothing you can do will stop them. Best just to protect yourself the best you can.

As long as you're not buying more fast food with a credit card than you would with cash, why not get the reward points for it? In fact, paying for it on credit card will show you exactly how much you're actually spending on fast food. It might encourage someone to spend less once they see that they spent $200 at Wendy's last month.

Now paying with a debit card, I agree, that's a bad idea.

Usually, the supervisor is so busy doing other things, she can't just stand and watch. Plus usually the supervisor is only making about 50 cents more an hour.
The best run Wendy's I have ever been to, the owner and is wife worked almost all the time there.

we use our discover card for every purchase if we can.. it has 0 fraud liability... we use our rewards for gas, and holiday dinners... we like to see a monthly paper trail of our spending.. it is much easier to obtain items when on a good sale, with the card.. i use it at the fast food places... no hassle.
