Default Have you noticed rising grocery prices?

Ever since gas prices have skyrocketed, it seems grocery prices have as well. I'm not talking a few pennies on everyday items, I'm seeing 40 cents to a dollar difference. I realize higher fuel costs mean more costs to the consumer, but I was wondering if anyone else has seen these changes or if it is just happening locally.

OUCH! (feeling the pinch)

YES! And not only food....I am simply amazed at how fast EVERYTHING has gone up in price ...and all at once too! Where to begin? How about phone, cable, electricity, garbage pickup, cc rates, and the new bill that now says we have to pay 2% on cc debt now. etc. etc. it goes on and on.

What's the little guy supposed to do? If it was hard meeting expenses before...it's downright intimidating now...

The Feds haven't done us any favors by raising rates like they have.

And no matter how good a rate of return you can find on your savings,
if you have any loans or credit card debt....they'll always be 3 or 4 points ahead of you in what you pay them in interest!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I see it ... the only way for us to stay ahead is to concentrate our efforts on reducing out debts instead of increasing our savings. At least for a little while anyway....

The prices started going up last year and they don't appear to be getting any better. You really have to work at saving money.

Yes about the only thing that has gone down in price is chicken thanks to the bird flu scare. So you Atkins dieters savor the moment. It just is another obstacle among many to numerous to mention here you will have to overcome in saving money. Hopefully, you realize the trend here.

I've noticed that I haven't made any notes on great food deals in my price book.

The same here our prices are going up too! At the moment we are paying around $1.30 AU for gas (a litre). 1 gallon = 4.546 litre, so @ $5.91 AU a gallon that’s about $7.38US. around $1.05 litre when at its at its lowest price. Other states are higher as we have No state tax on fuel. They are blaming it on short supply!

Our food prices are high owning to the drought and cyclones in the far north and price of fuel. Some fruit crops have been lost, and cattle & northern dairy areas are badly damaged too! Bananas are expensive, around $5.00 AU a kilo (2.2 lb) or more. Just to name a few areas. I can send next specials price list if you like!

I have also noticed that sizes are changing again. my saline solution is opti free and I went to buy some and noticed a bottle that was about .80 cheaper and i thought, great! till I checked the fluid oz. It was 2 oz less. so the 12 oz bottle was still the better deal than the 10 oz. bottle. very sneaky! and there was no advertisement that it was a smaller bottle. opti free has always been 12 oz.

Gee, Cicy33, good thing you were alert on the sneaky size changes. I wonder how many other companies are doing the same.

i've noticed milk is a little more -- it's on sale for 2.39 (orig. 2.69) here for a gallon of skim. In Rochester it was always on sale for like $1.69, but that was in upstate ny closer to dairy farms.

Times like this, it makes me wish my grandparents still had a fully functional farm! I used to like going to the grocery store to see how much I could save. It isn't fun anymore, it's downright stressful!

Yes, groceries are so expensive this year.

I have always been too disorganized, and okay, maybe too lazy to use coupons in a major way.

I'm reformed! Gotta learn how the real coupon artists do it. For now, I'm just being really careful to use the coupons that print with my grocery store receipt, and the ones that come on packages.

Also, when there are sales, I'm stocking up big time, even if I have to make a second trip to the store (on my way somewhere else to save gas) to buy more of something. I often walk to the store with the stroller, so I can only buy what fits in the stroller's basket. Now, I'm scoping out the sales with the stroller, and coming back with the car to buy more of our staples when they're on sale. My spouse has been teasing me cause I came home with ten boxes of cheerios last week and the laundry room closet is filled up with jars of spaghetti sauce.

my main home is on an island.. i would not want to shock everyone too much... but, a gallon of milk there is $10.99, for the label toft. the only brand the 2 grocery stores sell.. both stores are no longer accepting coupons... this is why, i have launched to my 2nd home on the mainland in ohio.. my spouse works on the island for 8 months of the year.... i am thinking about selling the main home on the island and moving to the 2nd one... my expenses here are $330 a month in the warmer months, in the winter, we had expenses over $420. the island home is out of sight on expenses, but, we will cash out big, when we sell...plus, we own a mini farm in ky. i pay bills on.

The groceries are costing more because of the price of gas & the fact that almost all food is delivered via truck, wich consumes alot of gas. The aldi's mgr here commented that he hates to raise the prices but can't do much about it when the cost of gas goes up they have to raise their prices.

When my oldest was baptized in 03 a gallon of milk here was going for over $4/a gal however, chocolate milk was cheaper??!?!? The farmers were dumping milk because they were not getting the federal subsidies they wanted.

Milk here is about $2.39-$2.89/gal.

My aunt & I were commenting the other day how about 10 yrs ago when Hamburger was on sale it was like .88/lb now it's on sale for $1.89 a lb!!! Mind you when did porkchops sell for cheaper than hamburger???? My dh is so sick of pork but it's cheaper & I've got a "tight ship" to run.
