Default Do you pay extra for the Energy Star label?

Why the labels may be misleading...

I don't seek them out... I need a refrigerator, I buy a refrigerator that serves my space needs first, and most price economical second. I don't think I can even find a refrigerator without a energy star label (maybe its where I would shop?!) So its not a determining factor in purchase.

I use the energy guides as a tool. It is important to me to save energy - for environmental purposes as much as for money reasons. I realized a long time ago that the most energy efficient appliance may not have the energy star label, so it's not something I look at that much.
