Do you ever plan on retiring?
Increasing numbers of Britons are having too much fun to ever retire, new research suggests. How about people in the rest of the world?

Re: Do you ever plan on retiring?
I do plan on retiring from the career that I have, and taking up something more leisurely but retire from making money to sit around and do nothing, is not within my scope.

Re: Do you ever plan on retiring?
no I plan to work at least a few hours a week the rest of my life once the kids are gone I think I would be bored out of my mind at least until I get grandkids I would have to work. And even with grandkids I am sure I would still need to work at least pt to get out with people & to make money I love making money way too much I will probably never retire!!

Re: Do you ever plan on retiring?
After 37 years of high school teaching, I retired. It was time to move on to the next phase of my life, but I haven't discovered quite yet what that will be. I am having a great time not rushing throughout the day. One of the luxuries of being retired is having a lot of time and very little stress.

Re: Do you ever plan on retiring?
I am waiting to start my real job before I can even think of retiring! I've worked as a research assistant, a resident counselor, and now a preschool teacher. Hopefully in 3 years I will be a school psychologist, which I plan on being until I retire, whatever age that ends up being.

Re: Do you ever plan on retiring?
I have not worked in 15 years, but I do all my husband's bookkeeping for his business, so I consider that I am envolved in a self employed job. I don't think my husband can ever really retire, he can not sit around. I think it would be nice enough to have enough money to just build a house for sale when we want to, not cause we have to.

Re: Do you ever plan on retiring?
If I stop doing things, I'll wither away and die. But I'd like to be in a financial position wherein I can choose what I do and how much (if any) money I earn doing it.

Re: Do you ever plan on retiring?
If retirement is living by sea, meeting friends for lunch, sleeping in and taking each day as it comes...well then I am already retired!

Re: Do you ever plan on retiring?
I consider myself semi-retired. I take care of my parents, run a small home business, split wood for our firewood business, breed dogs, run my home, knit, read, watch Dr. Phil, spend time each day in gratitude and enjoy my family to the fullest. I hope I never have to work outside the home again!! I am sure no matter how retired I get, I will always find meaningful ways to spend my time.

Re: Do you ever plan on retiring?
I'd like to retire w/ dh in 30 yrs. I think about things like how much things will cost by then? will SS be there for our generation? Will anyone be able to afford the meds we'd need to keep us going in our "golden years".
Plus I've also noticed alot of people that just retire & lump it have a shorter lifespan than those who remain active by working ect.
Though I think of myself as a sahm somewhat retired since I literally don't make any income. But I know I have one of the most important jobs of raising the next generation for atleast another 20yrs depending on how many kids we have total. (I'm dying to get a pt job once all the lil monkey's are in school full time, counting the years til then *L*)

Re: Do you ever plan on retiring?
well, I'm retired in the sense that I don't have to work to earn a living. I retired from the military when I was 38 but now I do the things I like more.

I also work at a preschool-not sure what my 'real job' will be. I'm 43 and have been there for 6 years.

Re: Do you ever plan on retiring?
Hopefully by the time i retire I will be a great grandma. I have to wait at least 50 yrs for that. My youngest is still in diapers, so I would rather save for my kids inheritance after I will pay off my mortgage.

Re: Do you ever plan on retiring?
Yes, God willing, hubby and I are planning to retire. I still have about 30 years to go since I've been contributing to a 401K for only a year (I'm 33, about to turn 34) and my current company doesn't provide a pension (my last company did provide a pension in which I'm fully vested, and they also provided a 401k plan in which I did not particpate--8 years of free money down the drain, very big mistake, but that's for another thread). My husband is eligible for retirement in 15 years (he's a state worker), and he swears that he's not going to work anymore. But, he'll only be 48 at the time of his retirement, and I have a suspicion that he'll find another job after he retires from his first one. I, on the other hand, plan to sit these tired bones down once my retirement rolls around, especially since I'll be working until my mid to late 60s, barring serious illness or death of course.
