Where does your mom live?

Did your husband look into Levin College of Law at University of Florida, Gainesville?

If money will be tight becaue of law school you won't be able to replace your "junk" for awhile. Motel 6 is cheap (below 50) and you can pack peanut butter sandwiches (we do it all the time) If you are saying that your Mother is in the Lansing area then by all means, ditch what you don't want and keep it as cheap as possible on th euhaul.

Yeah, if you feel your stuff is junkie and you were planning on getting rid of it anyway, then don't bother moving it, but be sure you don't junk anything you can't replace with the newer furniture from your mom's, since you don't want to be tempted to 'justify' new furniture shopping by saying you don't have a dining room table and need something, or whatever it is.

i personally plan on getting rid of all my furniture and buying all brand new stuff when I move again. that is why I did last time. I furnished this whole house for about $7000 which includes everything, from pictures on the wall to new beds, matresses and all. I would leave the junk stuff behind and take your mother's stuff a little at a time.

First, how big is the place you are moving to? How many square feet? Figure out the size of the bedrooms etc and how much you need to feel comfortable furniture wise.
Next, take an inventory of what you want to keep from what you have and an inventory of what your mom is willing to give to you. Rent a U-Haul or a trailer, what ever it takes to make it fit and do it in one trip saving your self the hassle and stress of trying to move multiple times. ( I just did that, big mistake!) By the way, if you have renters insurance take pics of the new furniture and store them someplace (safety deposit box) so you can prove what condition the items are in now and they can work the depreciation if anything happens and you need to replace anything in Lansing. Always good to have photos of new items for insurance purposes. good luck with the move! I have moved across country twice and have no plans of doing it again any time soon! |
