Yikes!

Powdered milk and canned tuna. Didn't think to stockpile those items.

Thanks for the link to the article.

I wouldn't of thought of that either, but when you make dinner you look in your pantry not under your bed *L*

If the bird flu mutates to go person to person we'd all have to stay home for up to 2 weeks at a time. (And we'd prefer to eat during that time )

Hubby and I have started cooking and eating vegetarian a few days a week for the past 6 months. Between the bird flu and, mad cow disease we feel we will be better prepared to go meat free if we start getting used to it now. We have been also learning about meat and dairy free alternatives for protein. I have doubled the size of my veggie garden so I have access to more organic food. Not to mention savings of growing my own.

Most of the advice that was given we follow already. Stock up on food and water so when the grocery store limits their hours (because the baggers and cashiers are out sick) you can go to your pantry.

What I'm thinking about is cash. Bank tellers will be out sick, computer guys who maintain your online accounts will be out sick, the guys who stock the ATMs will be out sick, you might be out of work or will run out of sick leave and yet you'll have to buy groceries and medical supplies and pay your bills somehow.

I'm not sure what would make me more sick, the bird flu or the powdered milk and tuna.

I'm keep lots of crackers, peanut butter and water on hand.

Also this may be obvious but be sure to have at least one manual can opener. If for some reason your electric can opener fails, you don't want to have to use your teeth to open all those canned goods.

OMG, you read my mind!

I was having this conversation with a friend yesterday and it hit me how money is going to be contaminated! I guess I'm going to have to break down and finally get a debit card card along with online bill pay and paypal.

As for the people that maintain the online accounts, I think companies will finally have to allow employees to work from their homes like it or not!
