I owe about $2k federal, and probably $1k state when all is said and done. The SE tax is what nailed me. But I've already taken care of it for the next year. Won't make the same mistake twice!

We owe, but we knew we would and had money set aside.

Our state taxes went through the roof this year. Typically we paid $300 or so every year, this yr we owe about $1500. Now we have to make estimated payments

I do get some Federal tax refund - money that I over paid to uncle sam. Hey I should make him pay me estimated payments for 2006 - ha!

I hate to take money from savings to pay for this but at the same time it's like the government gave me a interest free loan. I've been using that money and gain interest from it so at the end of the day I am probably better off..

I got a large federal return, but I have to pay for both NY state and NJ state taxes.

Except you get charged a "convenience" fee of about 3% when you pay by credit card. It's not worth the 1% you'll get back in dividend dollars.

We owe this year for the first time too, about $2000 total for state and federal. We were really hoping for something back to work on the house, but we just need to suck it up.

If you withheld too little, uncle sam did not give you an interest-free loan - you just didn't give him one
