Do you play the Lottery?
Curious to see who plays the Lottery here?
Is it worth the $1.00 to play or should that dollar be used elsewhere?

Re: Do you play the Lottery?
I used to buy scratch off tickets now and then, the time I won $88 dollars I figured I was as far ahead as I was ever going to get and quit.

Re: Do you play the Lottery?
I participate in a weekly office lottery pool. It costs me $52/year
I don't think it's a good idea, but I do it so I can take part in the around-the-water-cooler fantasy sessions. When the administration where we work is driving us crazy, inevitably someone will say "when we win the lottery, we can all quit."

Re: Do you play the Lottery?
I hate the lottery...think it's a big waste of money. Dh, however, loves it. He plays the provincial lottery, scratch and win tickets, keno...whatever. He rarely wins, but I honestly do think that he truly hopes to win big one day! He uses his spending money to pay for his 'addiction'. Can you imagine if he does win? Oooh, I'd have to eat my words, then!

Re: Do you play the Lottery?
I hate the lottery as well! My mom plays with some work buddies. In NY, the lottery is 2x a week. I tell her that she could give me her $2 every week... then at the end of the year, she'd "win" $104 when I give it all back to her!
Anyway, this thread reminds me of a comic I found once...

Re: Do you play the Lottery?
I'll buy one ticket once in a blue moon, usually when the prize is so big that it will most likely be won by someone. I won $1500 once with 5/6 numbers, which was sweet! But I won't bet my salary on a lottery win. I might spend $2/month.
I had a boss who was in debt up to her ears, but who consistently spent $20/week on the lottery. One Wednesday she forgot to pick up her tix before ticket sales closed and she had a panic attack at the office. Its impossible to convince some people that it's a waste of perfectly good money.

I've tried... I'm a dreamer...
I'll keep trying to the day i die..
it's NOT frugal... but it's nice to hope...
I usually use the quarters that I've saved up from collecting around the house... usually about 2/month. Not too bad...

Re: Do you play the Lottery?
The lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math All kidding aside, I have indulged in the once-in-a-blue-moon ticket. A few months back I bought 25 to hand out as door prizes for an event, but had a poor turnout, so scratched them myself- made almost $50, but not enough to encourage me to do it again. I know the odds are against me.

Re: Do you play the Lottery?
I never play the lottery as the odds are so great that the chances of winning are far too low.

Re: Do you play the Lottery?
i don't play the lottery but I do buy raffle tickets if a kid is selling them, or it is a cause I believe in. I consider it a donation becasue I never expect to win.
