Where can you go for a fitting? I've had one fitting and those shoes fit worse than any other shoes I own. I paid $80 for a pair of shoes I can hardly stand to wear (they're heels and my toes slide down and cramp and my heels get blisters).
So, uh, yeah, I stick with self selecting. None of the shoes I've self-selected do that AND the most I've paid is $25. |

I work at Dillard's in the children's shoe department we give professional fittings and I also help out if needed in the mens shoe department and also give men a professional fitting. If you are ever in Asheville, NC visit the Dillard's in the Asheville Mall and I will give you a professional fitting.

I go with self selecting, and my foot does suffer, but my wallet doesn't. I just can't stumach those prices! I would rather be barefoot!

Gosh the last place i bought shoes was QVC. I use to only buy tennis shoes at shoestores in the mall. I bought a cheap pair of boots at a walk in place. I only need them for parties. I just don't spend much on shoes.

for dressier shoes I will get anything from goodwill to dept store. Tennies I will buy @ Famous Footwear or Kohls. I don't spend more than $50 on any pair of shoes. Since I'm a sahm I really don't need my dress shoes anymore other than once in a while, so my tennies that hardly got worn when I was working are getting a wrk out now. & when it's warmer a $15 pair of Earth Shoe (? I think that's what they are called) sandals or generic birkenstocks due just fine.

Oh I forgot btw... I used to sell tennies for about 5 yrs. It's amazing how clueless people are. I actually was in Kohls last spring looking for a replacment pair for my 8 yr old Adidas & I was giving tips to some girls who were looking for something for Track. Then they ask me if I can find them this one in this size & they were shocked I didn't work there *LOL* The person who did had no clue.

LOL, first sign of warm weather I'm barefoot too! I only wear shoes when doing barn chores or going to town, then it's usually my 10 year old Dr. Scholls. Yep, barefoot's for me! kj |

i get mine sometimes at walmart, but try to go to payless shoes in arkansas. i get most shoes for 5 a pair. my daughters hello kittys were 20, most expensive pair i bought, but with her slippers, she got a 5 dollar off discount too.the cashier added the tax too before removing the discount, which made my total in the store 100 dollars, and i paid 80. that was 2 pairs for all 5 of us, slippers for all of us and two backpacks.

I buy my boots at harley davidson (it has been 7 years since I have needed a new pair)
I wait for the sales I just got a 200 dollar pair of boots for 50 dollars. I get my tennis shoes at reebok outlets stores you can save up to 75% off which means I always pay less than 25 dollars or less for a pair of shoes that I could go over to the mall and easily pay over 60 bucks for. |

I buy footwear all over the place, but it they don't fit, i can't really blame the salesperson, cus only i can say whether they're comfortable or not.

Fern, I agree and disagree. I would never have bought those shoes on my own, but he was very convincing that the problems I felt would go away ("they're new, you need to break them in", etc). Yes, I allowed myself to be convinced. He seemed to know what he was doing, he measured my foot several different ways and brought out "the perfect pair".
So, now I stick with self-selecting because I don't want to listen to the sales pitch. Meantime I'm stuck with an $80 pair of shoes that I can wear for about 20 minutes at a time (if I don't have to stand or walk). |

Cercis, that should of never happened to you, did the shoe salesman bring out multiple pairs for you to try on? I like to make sure that the shoe fits and feels comfortable, if not we try a different style because all shoes are different. Sorry about your bad experience, if you are ever in Asheville, NC look me up and I will give you a professional fit.

I buy a lot of shoes (especially dressy ones that I will only wear a few times) at thrift stores. I buy sneakers at Payless or Wal-Mart since I don't need anything fancy (not a runner or anything). I have had some great pairs from Payless that have lasted a long time, despite being only $15 or $20. My last pair of sneakers were brand-name from my SIL because I asked for a new pair for Christmas! She bought me better sneaks than I would ever buy myself.
I have to buy a pair of Dyeables for my brother's wedding in August...the cheapest pair at David's Bridal was $40 and I just could not do it. I am going to check out the Dyeables at Payless, or just hope I can find a pair of sandals in celadon sometime in the next few months. It's a color that I know I will never wear again in my life and I just cannot bring myself to spend $40 on a pair of shoes. |

I haven't had good luck with walmart shoes (or much else) so I went back to payless. WE started getting DH shoes there too after he lost some weight. I have several pair of pumps from when I worked outside my home that will last me the rest of my life I think (black, navy and gray). I buy tennis shoes when the last pair wear out (about every 4-5 years) and a pair of sandles just as often. Wehn we moved to the snow zone I invested in a pair of boots, warm lining and tall, low heel. I love them!

I generally pick out my shoes myself. There was one running shoe store I went to though, where they helped me figure out what type of running shoe would best fit my foot, given my foot's width and arch.
