Default Checking your debit/credit card statement

This topic came up on another board that I monitor. Do you keep your receipts for debit/credit card purchases and then cross-check them with the billing statement to confirm the charges are correct?

I never thought of doing this -- I usually just look at the statement and think "Yeah, that looks about right". I suppose that's a dangerous thing to do...

I check my credit card and checking/debit card accounts on at least a daily basis. The checking account is usually checked at least twice a day. There have been a number of times where I have been able to catch charges or deposits that weren't correct and get them fixed quickly.

If I'm away from the internet for more than a few days, my fingers get really itchy for want of being able to check my financial accounts. Oh yeah - I also check my 403b account 2 or 3 times a month.

All online of course.

Yes, I always check my credit card statements against the credit card receipts I've saved.

I also once annually call and request a print out of my payments from the bank that holds my mortgage. I do so becus I make additoinal payments each month and want to be sure they record them. I read that mortgage banks often make mistakes calculating principal and interest payments.

I also check grocery store receipts, usually as I'm slowly walking out of the store. They OFTEN make mistakes, for instance, they'll charge you for higher priced produce that was not on sale.

Someone I used to date, an attorney, was also in the habit of counting change from any transaction, and he would receive the wrong change in probably 1 out of every 5 transactions. Guess the cash register clerks were all home-schooled. (Just kidding!!)

definetely, I always check item by item, to make sure I am not being charged twice and that there aren't any "fishy" charges...

I always check my statements every few days. I use my credit cards everyday. A few years ago I was charged for something I never bought. Some company sent me a cd and billed me for it. I never even heard of them. I was refunded.
