Default dumb question about bacon

OK, not really frugal-oriented, but...haven't eaten bacon for years...had a craving for it, so bought some to make a bacon/barley/carrot/onion casserole.

For some reason, the bacon did not brown and crisp up the way it usually does. It was soft and limp. What'd i do wrong? Heat not high enough? (I have an electric stove.)

I'd been avoiding bacon for a while because the price never went below 2.99 a pound. Recently it's gone down to 1.49 on sale and I've scooped up a lot.

I agree that if you cook it longer it will get nice and crispy. Just be careful not to burn it!

I agree. Too long and you get the nice bacon smoke all over....fun to fan out. But, microwaving is usually an easy way to get crisp bacon. Then, take the grease and scramble some eggs...saves on oil!! (Adds to your heart attack, but where's the fun in living long??)

How I love bacon sandwiches

Try the microwavable Oscar Meyer brand of bacon for a crisp result. It's fabulous.

As horrible as it is, bacon crispness depends on the amount of fat. You need to fry it on high heat, in it's own grease, until the water has boiled off and the oil begins to look foamy.

If it's a low fat version it's not going to get crisp.

I buy the precooked bacon (no mess and cooks in seconds). I pay $2.50-$2.99 a pack. My husband will only let me buy that kind. He hates grease and he likes that he can make a few pieces at a time.

I curse bacon, but love it so....
gotta love the nice bacon and eggs breakfast on sunday, or adding bacon to burgers, but I think I may have to get some of the microwavable kind for sandwiches at lunch. There's not enough time to come home & fry up some bacon & get back to work in an hour :P
