Default What to pack?

We are going to a baby shower in GA (5 hour drive) next Saturday (not tommorow) and we will be out for both lunch and dinner (and snack actually).

Normally when we are out we pack peanut butter sandwhiches, but we arn't going to have them for two meals!
We can't do lunch meat, and we have no microwave or anything, like a table. We will be eating in the car as we drive. So I need something that is not to messy and easy to clean out of a car should a mess be made. (make that when a mess is made .)

Any ideas?

Hopefully, you have an adult assiting!

We snacked instead of a meal on a long trip: Pretzels, cheese, grapes and carrots. Easy, healthy and filling.

How about fixing everyone a brown paper bag filled with heaalthy snacks, include the peanut butter sandwich, and let them eat when and what they want?

Good luck!

when we went on vacation we also packed jerky. made homemade trail mix/chex mix, lots of water/drinks. I can't really think of anything to pack for a dinner. I know you are trying to save money but how about stopping by a grocery store on the way back an getting something there? Just a thought. We usally do that grab something made from the deli or even something from gas station mini resturants.

Well I just figured out exactly what time we are leaving and I have to pack breakfast too! ugh.

Oh well thanks for the advice, I can't exactly give my 3 year old and 1 year old enough food all at once ! (tehey would dumpt the bag and play when full!) but I will pack lots of snacks. and we will prolly have to stop for dinner, especially since we don't know how long the shower is .. I hate not knowing. (the shower is at one, the drive will be 5 up and 5 back)

I do have help . DH will be driving I just have to pass out food and fun.

So far I figure breakfast will be english muffins, lunch the PBnoJ and then have (for whenever requested) grapes, shredded carrots, trail mix, cheese, and prolly pringles and grahms, though they are a bit cumbly. hope that's enoguh.

Oh and I need a second breakfast for me, I hate english muffins and eat a huge second one every day .

We always had crackers and easy cheese on long car trips. I vividly remember my mother making all kinds of fun shapes on the tops of crackers for us. It might be a little messy with such young ones, though. We ate string cheese, too. Fun to peel.

I used to love string cheese as a kid, now my kids usually don't peel it (blame it on age) so I don't buy it, dunno why, not like it hurts anything for them not to peel it.

Will their be food at the baby shower? That might be one meal for you. I would pack the easy snacks as folks have already suggested.

Good planning!

I have no idea what is at the shower! I am expecting snackage and she did say it was planned to be short, which is good news I hate pulling out packed food at other peoples houses (and I hate cranky hungry kids), But she also said she expected the kids to be napping, well DS never naps, and DD is almost always up by 1 (and she certainly will be after a 5 hour trip!). Sigh, kids make life so difficult. (but so much fun too!)

So after a bazzillion things packed, I will be playing it by ear .

Do let us know how the trip turns out. I'm really interested in what she fed you at the shower! You have a brave husband to travel that far for a baby shower. I don't think mine would do it!

Well we made it, and no one went terribly hungry.

There was lunch there, and we all ate some, then around dinner time we got the kids to eat some mac and cheese and my wonderful DH went back out to the car for more variety of snacks since he was worried about me. But the trouble was meat, I was craving meat and anything less made me puky, blame it on baby3

Anyway we stopped on the way home for burgers, which helped since DH needed caffine, and the drinks we packed were no longer cold (I didn't expect them to be, to long) so it got real food in him and I.

I was reminded again how I hated my mothers attitude about food. She sat her kid down for green beans at 1pm(a rather small amount of them), and then he scarfed all our food for the rest of the evening, and no mention of dinner was made by anyone other than DH and I, but plenty of 'honest we do feed these kids' well when. I seem to be the one feeding them! (no way a kid will sit for a 'real' dinner with that kindof disctraction so ofcourse I gave lots of snacks after).

Anyway thanks to all for the snacks suggestions

Oh and yeah DH is wonderful
