Default Afternoon cravings

Does anyone have any good ideas on how to combat the afternoon cravings? I do well in the morning and at night, but at about 3:00 - 5:00 I just crave sweetness and eat all kinds of stuff I know I shouldn't. How can I get out of this afternoon cycle?

It is prolly due to what you ate for breakfast or lunch (depending on what time that was) our bodies crave sugar when low on it, so if you had some simple carbs for lunch without much protien or complex stuff for long time energy then your body will demand a quick fix.

OR if you are like me it is the sheer energy drain of lunch and nap that kills you! (so I get a protien sweet like trail mix or peanut butter.)

peanut butter is awesome for cravings of all kinds and it will also help curb your hunger and make you feel not so hungry, fiber is also a good way to curb your appetite!

We have a farmer's market nearby that wells soy nuts in all kinds of flavors. This really cuts down on my cravings. I think it's more the act of eating that I'm addicted to. I usually eat every few hours,(and no I'm not fat). I just eat often but small meals.

I drink a diet Dr. Pepper around 2:30 every day-it helps me to not eat and gives me a little caffeine!

nuts of all kinds (don't be sick) are very good for females and the urniary tract system and all our body parts it's reccommended that women eat lots of nuts especially walnuts... too bad the only nuts I like are peanuts! I can not stomach any other kind..... stop with the sick thoughts

Oprah eats a handful of almonds and half a sliced apple with parmesan shavings. Haven't tried the parmesan but sometimes I eat a small apple with a little lump of cheddar - it's very tasty.

You don't say whether your'e at home or work, so here's a couple of suggestions for either situation:

How about some seedy bread with peanut butter or a home-made smoothy? Maybe a few oatcakes with a small lump of cheese?

Or a bowl of mixed cereal - e.g. granola or muesli plus cornflakes with low fat milk? (Personally, I can't bear cereal first thing in the morning -I like savoury things - so a bowl of cereal as a snack in the evening or afternoon would be lovely.

Bake some potato skins and serve with a low fat dip.

Whip up a fruit gelatin - as in The Tightwad Gazette - and put some whole berries in it. Serve with a dollop of creme fraiche or low fat plain/fruit yogurt.

Some mixed berries and/or a banana.

All of the above are absorbed slowly into your system, therefore they should keep your energy up for longer whilst satisfying your cravings. Experiment with a few things and let us know how your'e doing.

Try a stick of gum or just filling small ziplock-type bags with a serving of the snack you normally crave and limit yourself to one bag.
