Half gallon of organic: the best price we can get is at Trader Joe's $2.49 (and about the same at Vons when they have it on sale). Vons finally has it in gallons, but I can't remember the price. (Something less than $5)

Does anyone know the reason why milk has become so expensive?

Terry I have read that it is because of suppy and demand. Something with the mad cow disease as well as more cows being slaughter becuase more people are eating beef and less cows for milk. I have also read that it is tied into the price increases.

Who knows!

I've been buying soy milk....it's not so much more expensive now that regualr milk is so high...and I think it tastes better. The Vanilla flavor on cereal is amazing!

I'm getting a cow. I have beef cows(eaters and 1 breeder), but I am seriously planning on getting a milking cow for personal milking use. But, then I am tied down with having to milk it. (I work full time outside the home) Anyone else have just 1 milk cow?? When you go on vacation and such, do you find you pay more to get it milked than you are saving by using your own milk??

We pay $2.50 for milk, and $1.99 when it's on sale. I get fresh milk for $2.00.

I use to have a cow, but I gave it to a friend. When she goes on vacation, someone at church milks it for her. Otherwise u have to plan your vacations to when the cow is dried off for calfing.

Milk right now is $3.09 a gallon down about 60 cents when I last posted in June.

The cost of gas has gone down as well.

The wholesale club is best for me. A gallon of milk is $2.09 and eggs are $1.09 for 18. Good enough for me... I truly believe the annual fee is worth it for me on dairy and gas alone!

Walmart usually has milk for 3.09 a galleon except when some other store has it on sale then they will sometimes drop their price to compete. When it is on sale at other stores Walmart honors their prices.

Lately, someone nearly always has it on sale. My local store had it on for 1.98 a gallon this week.

It's because of the gas price hike, they have to compensate for the drivers having to pay more at the pump so in turn it affects the price of milk as well as everything else thats delivered by trucks or gasoline driven vehicles!

Milk has stayed about the same since I posted in Jan. Was $3.09 at Stop and Shop for 1% and $2.39 for 1%. Skim, whole and 2% were $2.99

Wonder why 1% is so much cheaper????

I switched to 1% for cereal, cooking, etc. Hubby still has a fit if he doesn't have 2% for him.
