Default Being brand loyal

I find that with a lot of things I tend to be brand loyal. I'm not sure why, but I am. How much more expensive do you think it is to be brand loyal and do you think I could save a lot if I got rid of this habit?

I do use coupons for the brands I buy so I don't usually pay full price and I try to get them when they go on sale.

I must have my Hellmans Mayo and my Guldens Mustard on my sandwich.
I also like ketchup of the Heinz variety. Most other things I don't care about.

I think if you are brand loyal cause of taste or quality it doesn't matter (so long as you can pay the bills of course).

I am very brand loyal to somethings, oreos for one , I just don't buy them often. Also breaded fish, we only buy the brand that gets eaten, it isn't much of a savings if no one will eat it.

I would prolly double check on brand stuff to see if a cheaper version is acceptable, but if not I don't worry about it. I have changed brands of toilet paper so far but I think that is it. I am sticking with my Heinz ketchup and well if I bought mayo it would be Helmans, but I use it so rarely I just don't buy it much. Also cheese we don't buy the prepackaged generic cheese, it tastes funny but the deli pack of chedder works.

I believe in being frugal, but I enjoy little pleasures that come from several brand-loyal items of my own...

Some I've cut out ~ like Tide & Northern quilted toilet paper because I can get it quite a bit cheaper and still get a great result. For me, I'm pickier on products that I ingest.

SO....I'm with you for the Heinz, Oreo's and Hellman's, and have to add Tropicana O.J. and Clausen pickles. But I do look for sales and coupons.

I try to save in so many areas that I feel easily justified to enjoy these brands...

The brand loyalty for me is Kraft parmesan cheese. (I tried the store brand and didn't like it). I haven't had the chance to buy fresh cheese. I just don't use that much.

As for everything else, it tastes the same so I go for the best deal.

I took a marketing course last semester that provided alot of insight on branding. First off, brand loyalty is a manufacturer's dream since they can make more profits from making people believe their product is distinctive. Truth is, the same people that make brand name products make the generics.. the only difference is the generic label and price of course

Fortunately for us, product differentiation (having more than one of the same product by different brand name) keeps costs low... well... except for dairy, I guess

I have a hard time thinking of things I am really brand loyal to. Mostly I buy whatever is cheapest...however, I prefer Charmin (I can't stand using crappy toilet paper at home when I have to use it all day at work), Barilla pasta (it's so much better!), Clasico pasta sauce (again, so much better!), and Crest toothpaste (years of disgusting cheap toothpaste turned me off of anything else). I'm willing to try just about anything once, though. I definitely think that flexibility is key when it comes to brands and saving money. If I knew what the generic equivelent of Charmin was, I'd buy it, but I don't want to take the risk of buying several packages of scratchy tissue-paper-like toilet paper to find out. Find things that you can switch temporarily with little commitment...like a can of store brand black olives instead of what you normally get. Then you can work your way up to bigger things.

Hmmm...I'm currently brand loyal to Toms of Maine toothpaste. Can't really think of anything else. Oh, I like to buy Newman's Own spaghetti sauce.
