One of my favorite slow cooker cookbooks is called Not Your Mothers Slow Cooker Cookbook. I bought it because I use it so much, but I have seen it in many libraries. Uses a lot of fresh ingredients and fewer prepared foods (i.e. no cream of anything soup in ANY recipe). I highly recommend for expanding your slow cooker diet.

May I add pressure cooker to this, too? A pressure cooker cooks foods quickly using less energy than a normal pot. It generates little steam, so that it is a good way to cook something like beans in summer when all the heat from cooking ends up needing to be removed from the house by the air conditioner, forcing even more energy expense.

Pressure cookers scare me a bit. I think I have heard too many stories about them exploding so I haven't explored the idea too much. Cooking quickly would be a huge benefit though. How do you use yours?

That sometimes happened many years ago but today's cookers are way better. Follow the instructions and there's no problem.
