A good price for soda?
Can someone give me a good price for brand named soda like Coke or Pepsi? I don't usually buy soda so I don't have any idea what a good price is to buy it at, but we're having a get together and I need to buy some brand named soft drinks. I just want to know what price I should be shooting for for 2 liter botles and 12 packs of cans.

Re: A good price for soda?
I get Liter bottles for .89 on sale and 12 packs for 2.50 on sale which comes out to .21 a can. I only buy them when they are on sale, and I stock up at that price.

Re: A good price for soda?
Usually the cheapest times of year in this area are Christmas, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Labor Day and Memorial Day... in no particular order At those times I can expect to pay $1 a 6pk by the case, or $.79 for 2 liter bottles.

Re: A good price for soda?
$4 a case (24 cans) is a good price. I buy when it gets down to that level.

Re: A good price for soda?
a waitress at a well know restaurant chain told me, they purchase their soda at walmart for 50 cents a 2 liter.. and sell it for coke or pepsi.. since she told me that i always ask for a 2 liter, instead of the pitcher... get my driff... we buy pepsi or coke, my unkie has worked for both co's and he said they are made from the same basic recipe... if a 2 liter is under a dollar, we sometimes buy it.. mostly it has to be 79 to 89 cents..
i hate cans.. but, we do buy them for holidays and such.. at 3/$8.

Re: A good price for soda?
I have a coworker who buys me twelve packs of Pepsi on an army base & I give her $3.00 - and that's overpaying... I know there's no tax, but I don't know about CRV...

Re: A good price for soda?
Actual price of soda for a 12 pack of cans around here is usually about 3.89. I have been stocking up lately at 4-12 can packs for $10. a few months ago, before I found this site, I would have never thought of doing that. So now, I am paying 21 cents a can instead of 32cents a can.

I don't get what you are saying. The waitress says they buy 2 liters and then sell that to their customers? That's stupid and an unnecessary expense. The soda machines are much cheaper - my restaurant owner friend said with the electricity, cups and everything it worked out to less than 7 cents/serving (and if it's a refill and they don't have to supply the cup, it's like 4 cents).
And pepsi and coke are not the same basic recipe. I don't care if your uncle worked there. He has no idea what recipe coke has (this I know for fact) because coke guards that puppy. Coke and pepsi taste completely different. I can tell which is which just by smelling them - and I am never wrong.
Of course, I drink Dr Pepper. I don't like either coke or pepsi (although I can stand to drink coke, pepsi makes me gag). And don't bring me a mr pibb and tell me it's dp, it tastes both too sweet and flat.

Re: A good price for soda?
A good price on coke or pepsi at the supermarket is 89 cents. I see the lowest for 12 packs at 3/$10.
I rarely buy soda these days now.

Re: A good price for soda?
yeah the waitress told us that they substitute the soda..... and we know her well.
my uncle is 80 years old
now.. i don't know what he would know about it now... but, he always says that
at one time they were both made by the same factory????? i don't really know.
so, i googled this question:
are coke and pepsi made from the same basic recipe
interesting reading... the formulas are different now.... they list several of the
ingredients... i agree, it is a secret formula...
i too. love dr. pepper.... thanks for the kewl info... enjoy your posts.

Re: A good price for soda?
I love Dr Pepper so much I moved to Texas. LOL, not really, but it where DP was created and it's where the DP museum is (Waco).
I'm off soda right now and it's killing me. DH wanted to go to Chili's (free gift card) and I told him I just couldn't handle it, I wouldn't be able to have a good time seeing everyone else have soda when I couldn't. Self deprivation has never worked for me.
I wonder why the restaurant substitutes? Like I said, it's much cheaper to use a soda machine.
Walmart Dr Thunder isn't bad, it's close. And I find that Coke is easier to fake (or maybe it's because I don't really like Coke?), we have the natural store brand cola and it tastes just like Coke to me. Probably wouldn't fool my mom though, you can't fool her at all.

Re: A good price for soda?
I don't buy name brand soda much unless it's like five 12 packs for $10 or two 24 packs for $8.
Though Roundys makes an awsome cola it is about the same as Pepsi. It's usually $2 for a 12 pack. Same with Wal-marts brand. Though Aldi's cola sells for under $3.75 for a 24 pack.
I believe Pepsi & Coke are owned by the same company, but tha't really "hush hush". Not like alot of product & stores aren't owned by the same place or come off the same canning line as the generics do anyway.

Glad I just drink water. I have never really liked coke or pepsi. I have stocked up on diet sprite since I have been on this site. I have a pantry full of it.

Re: A good price for soda?
Somewhat o/t....
Also along this line Coka-cola has an olympic promotion & I posted the link under instant wins. There's alot of 2 lieter bottles of soda to be won. I've won several times & I know a gal on a diff board who's got 60+ bottles comming. That'll make a nice dent in our grocery bill w/ free soda.

Re: A good price for soda?
Why drink it at all? I drink water and sometimes add a little flavoring to it when I want. Much healthier and cheaper.
