Default What foods do you regularly make from scratch?

I don't think there's anything that I make from scratch on a regular basis. I might try to make something from time to time, but that's about it. I was thinking about how different my mom and I are. She makes so many things from scratch on a regular basis: spaghetti sauce, jelly, bread, dried fruit, applesauce, pickles, canned tomatoes, soups, chili, etc. etc. etc.

I do benefit from it, however - she shares.

I guess I'm like your mom -- I make most of our meal items from scratch too. I can check off everything you listed, as well as the etc, etc's. My mother was the same -- it just rubbed off on me (but NOT my sister, the Convenience Queen)....

I make what I am good at from scratch, it isn't a savings if no one will eat it. I am pretty good at baked goods, and some sauces, I am terrible at jelly, and most grains. (cept bread)

I make pancakes, pizza dough, cakes. I used to make bread but I stopped since I buy it for very cheap at the bread outlet store.

I guess there are a couple of areas where I do make things from scratch almost exclusively - baked goods (cookies, etc.) and pancakes.

It's easier to list what I don't make from scratch because most things I do make from scratch.

I do love Uncle Ben's Black Bean Soup. If anyone has a h/m recipe for something that taste similar, I sure would love it.

I have no idea what that tastes like, but I just recently discovered I like black beans! Way cool, since they arn't to expensive, and mix up in lots of different ways, don't like garbanzo though.

BTW forgot to mantion pizzas and calzones, though I am better at the calzones (had spinache and bacon and cheese ones last night)

I find that most prepared foods have too darn much salt for my husband's heart condition. So I make a lot of things from scratch. I've learned to make salsa with no salt, marinades for meat with no salt, and a lot of crock pot soups from scratch. I like to make yeast raised butter rolls from scratch. I make bread machine breads but have also been known to make it the old fashioned way.

I like to mix my own spices (for instance I have a taco seasoning recipe that I think I got from the Tightwad Gazette).

I cook a lot of beans too. I used to make my own soy nuts in the oven and fruit leather and when fresh roasted peanuts were cheap, I used to mix my own peanut butter (which is Glorious!).
