Default Strange Food

I went to a dinner party the other day and they served peacock and llama as the main courses. It's the first time I have ever eaten those. What is the strangest food you have ever eaten?

Have you ever heard of durian (sp). It is a fruit from asia. The taste isn't bad, but it smells like an outhouse...just a terrible smell. I ate that once.

Frogs is the stangest. They told me it was chicken. After everyone left the dinne table, I threw mine away, so I really didn't eat it.

You don't even want to know some of the foods I've tried. In fact, I don't even want to know anymore. I figured out a few years ago that it was just better not to ask since in most cases I am still obligated to at least try it. One of those little things people forget to tell you about when you live in Japan.

Jeffrey:

This gave me a good giggle!

My girls learned not to ask the people at church what they were serving for lunch. They don't eat game, and that is usually what is usually served. The took a clinton stand: don't ask, don't tell (me).

I laughed at this archived thread! It is good enough for a repeat. The strangest thing I've ever eaten was at a seafood festival at the beach, "sea urchin sperm" Although, the serving size was not enough to truly give it a rating.

I really love bear butt! The first time I met my father in law he came to me with a plate and asked if I would like to try some bear a**. I was so floored. but it became a family joke. and it is a great meat! He has gotten 3 bears I think.

I have had Alligator soup which was great. Besides that, a buffalo burger (very dry) and then I still consider raw clams and oysters pretty gnarly..

i'm not that adventurous when it comes to some of the above, though i did hear the other day that one of the families in Vietnam that came down with the dreaded avian flu acquired it from eating "duck blood soup."

Gross.

While my friend was visiting, we outdid ourselves in this area

Warning: If you're a vegetarian or squeamish about food, you'll probably want to skip this link...it includes lots of photos of what was tried.

Well I'm vegetarian, but if I had a choice of strange things to try it would probably be some sort of reptile, as all mammals seemed to taste very similar. Birds taste similar, so Reptiles must taste different.

Not sure if this counts, but when I was living in Japan in the early 90's, the trend was to bring the fish to the table ALIVE, and eat it. Super fresh, I guess. My boss loved it, but I couldn't do it.

Ground buffalo is outstanding. We cook it up like sloppy joes and it's really tender.

The strangest that I've eaten recently, probably pickled pigs feet. You can find that in any grocery store.

Margaritza, I have yet to try. It's a Greek soup that people eat after fasting. It's made from lamb intestines.

I figure I'll eat anything once.

Ah, the worst thing I've ever eaten, I think I blocked it out of my memory!

In Korea we had fabulous food, except at KIST. We ate in their cafeteria one day, and had kim chi with vienna sausages in it. A smell I could not describe.

I grew up on a dairy farm and we used to eat cow heart and tongue. Haven't had it in years, but it really was good.

Well all I can say is that he'd make an excellent contestant on Fear Factor.

I'm a vegetarian too, so it's a double-yuck for me. :P
