Default No Fruits & Veggies Here For Awhile

It looks like we're going to have to do without fresh fruits and vegetables for the rest of the year. We just had the 10th hurricane of the season come through Japan and they have wiped out all the local produce. I went to the store today and these were the prices:

Head of Lettuce $10.50
Head of Cabbage: $6.00
Tomatos: $1.25 each
Apples: $5.00 each

I could go on, but I'm already depressed enough

I guess there are allways cans and frozen veggies

It wasn't that this last hurricane was as big as some of the others...just that everywhere is soaked from the previous ones so there is no place for the water to go. It wasn't the wind that caused all the deaths...flooding nad mudslides from satuated hillsides. Just turned on the news to see that Northern Japan had a 6.8 earthquake this evening. I guess when it rains, it pours.

Not exactly the same, but what we did was go and stock up on vegetable juice...I guess we'll be drinking that for the next few months.

Prices for some things out here have been effected by the Florida hurricanes - tomatos - but nothing like the prices you are mentioning. I would have to go without the fruits and vegetables too with those prices. $10 for a head of lettuce?!?

I am glad I live in Texas where so far we don't have those kind of problems. I just bought a 5 bedroom 2 bath mobile home with an acre of land and am putting in a raised bed garden this spring. Hopefully that will save me a lot of money on produce.

I feel bad for you Jeffrey! Those are horrendous prices. Can you put in your own garden or do a few things in containers?

I'm heading back to the US in about a week, so the Japanese food prices will no longer be an issue
