Default Using up the baby's cereal

The main ingredient in this is oat flour. I would assume that would mean oats ground into a powder consistency. I'm wondering if it could be used as a substitute for flour. I wouldn't think so, but thought I'd ask if anybody else knew, just in case.

I used to add it in bread, pancakes and stuff like that. But I would add just about 1 tblspoon instead of spoon of flower to the whole batch. Didn't notice any difference, but saved a few spoons of flower. Baby cereal costs more than flower, but I used to get it free from Wic and my son didn't want to eat it anymore, and it was almost expired. I still have some left that I was getting for my daughter, I just add a little to a bottles of milk that I give them. They think if the milk is in the bottle it's a treat, even tho they get exactly same milk in the cup.

I've been reading up on it a little and oat flour can apparently be used in combination with other flour as a substitution. For example, if you are making pancakes and it calls for 1 1/2 cups flour then you can put in 1 cup flour and 1/2 cup oat flour. I found pie crust and other recipes using oat flour as well. I'm just wondering if I can use the baby food as oat flour or not. It has other ingredients in it (all long and man made) so I wasn't sure. I get it on WIC now too. But only for a little longer. Before we had the WIC, DH bought a bunch on a good sale. Now DD won't eat the stuff. But she loves bread, so I thought I could use it up by putting some of it in the recipes.

I used to use it to thicken things like frozen fruit...thawed then add some cereal...that way I didn't have to waste the delicious juice.

I bet you could ad it in to anything in a small amount, but because of the other additives I would avoid the one to one thing.

Sure add it in to any baked 'flour' product, like breads, cakes, muffins, pancakes, etc. I'd just add it in a tablespoon or two at a time. No need to waste it. Probably also useful for a gravy thickener.
