Coupon Trains

I've been seeing a lot of mentions of coupon trains. What are they? What is a conductor? How does one "buy a ticket?" I am really curious.

I believe that's discussed in the COUPON EXCHANGE Forum, there's a scroll down menu at the bottom of this thread. Coupon trains consist of groups of people sending ONE packet of coupons all around in a circle, through the mail. The "conductor" starts the envelope, which visits all the "cars" in the "coupon train," and the last person is the "cabooze" who then sends it back to the "conductor."

Different websites have different directions for coupon trains, and different requirements for people to join coupon trains.

When you receive the envelope filled with coupons, you remove those that you want, and replenish the envelope; care has to be taken that the envelopes don't become filled with expired coupons; also, sometimes the "train" is broken, when the envelope gets lost in the mail.

Yes, for some reason, our coupon train threads are in the freebies section; the grocery and coupon discussion area was recently added to SA, and the trains remained where they were.

Every site runs trains differently, and every train runs things differently. The conductor is the person who sets the rules and monitors the train to make sure it's still running (people go on vacation, get the flu, forget to check their mail...and occasionally need reminders).

Our train rules have changed recently; mjrube94 has put up some great guidelines.
