You could have them for a week set up menus, plan, shop and cook for the family. My mom did this when my brother and I were little and we stopped being pretty picky after this, or at least most of the time.

Or stop providing other food, junk food, etc...and they'll eat when they're hungry.

Mac N Cheese soup? Yeah I can see it - add some milk or cream and ham, onions and chicken broth. Ta-da - soup.

They would starve in my house. You eat what you are served (unless its an allergy problem) or you go hungry. I don't fix 5 different meals for 5 different people. If my little ones complain, I tell them they can fix the next meal. When they do that, and they do all the work, it usually straighenes out their attitude for a few days.

My brother the psychologist said the worst cases he sees are those with food hangups...

Anyway, see my blog under 'Kids and Saving Money' for a few more ideas.

My 6 and 8 yo's are also picky. One wants mostly protein and the other mostly bread. Ug. Many nights I put out a platter of healthy items and let them choose the item and amount. For example, make a platter of:

Seasonal fruit
Whole grain bread or crackers (not too many or all the one will eat is crackers)
Cheese (Make tiny cubes or some cute shapes, it REALLY matters)
Cut up veges (make cute shape, REALLY!)
Dips (salad dressings, peanut butter, honey, etc)
Waffle sticks (you cut your own) and syrup dip
Sliced hard boiled eggs

After awhile you will think of more items and it is a stress reliever. Easy and not time consuming to cook, not to mention you are mad they didn't appreciate your work.

I started doing a menu for the month as a way to save money. It ended up helping with the whats for dinner, i don't like that comments from my kids. Now I ask them what they want for the month( within reason). We started making pizza on saturdays, and two day during the week when they can have french fries and hamburger, hotdogs, ect. I do a crockpot meal at least once a week. So, I am only cooking meals longer than 30 minutes 3 times a week. They would eat french fries everyday if i let them.
