I think this is cool. When we were growing up on the "mini" farm, we had a big freezer full of all the veggies we grew and a meat locker with the beef. We made our ice cream and baked. Coke and chips were rare. We didn't go to the grocery store but every couple of weeks and mostly to get bread, milk, eggs, and paper goods. Sometimes, a chicken. During summer, we literally "picked" dinner from the garden. If you have enough stocked fruit and veggies in the freezer, I think your health will be great. We hardly ever got sick. It's cool to see someone doing this. (Believe it or not, when I was in elementary school, milk was delivered on Mondays and eggs from a farm on fridays--and I am not yet 50 so it wasn't that long ago!)

In my dream world I would have a mini farm! Just a few acres would be enough for me! A nice garden, a few big yards for the dogs. I'm not real sure about chickens....they are annoying creatures and I think my dogs would chase and kill them just for fun...but I like the idea of a neighbor having them and then we can work out a trade deal! I might even 'grow' a cow or two. That's what a friend of mine calls it. I think I'd have a grand time of doing it and having the kids around to help and learn....aren't dreams nice....I wonder if it will ever happen!

The farm was just a few acres and my parents did it on little money, but that was a different time and place. There were three of us surrounded by larger farms. One of our neighbors grew strawberries and the other grew popcorn! We all had big gardens. Was awesome growing up cos we had so much space to roam and play, especially with a wooded area right behind us. My mother hated the isolation, but the five of us kids that lived in the area loved it! We had to pinch pennies and we didn't own much, but we were so rich in so many areas. With my kids, I would have loved the space and had less "stuff" but it didn't turn out that way. My brother's family lives more like that, so I believe you should keep that dream alive. Here's to believing it will happen for you.

Okay back from the weekend...again.
All is still well, but I have been lazy and really need to cook. It was tempting to go buy something this week just because I was lazy! AAGGHH!!! I resisted, that would be a horrible reason to blow the challenge. So I am still holding out, but I caved and used 4 (yes four!) of my fresh eggs to make my favorite brownies! Getting down there as far as fresh eggs go.... |

Okay, trying to snap the lazyness issue I was making enchiladas last night and what do I do? I stab myself with a knife while cleaning it! Really! So for now, while it heals, I've got a bum finger! Never realize how useful a body part is until it's injured. Greatfully not bad enough for stitches, but close. It small, but deep. Good thing it was a small knife!
But I have nine servings of enchiladas in the freezer now! |

Okay back again and basically at the two month mark. So far so good, but it's getting a tad boring. Oh, and a new kink in the game, well a good kink...a guy! So far I've not cooked us a meal, probably next week when he get back from a business trip, but here's hoping I don't cave on the challenge just to impress a guy! (pst...but I really like this guy!)

How is the challenge going?

Hum I guess I messed up and switched threads to the other one.... I made it! It was rather dull and boring by the end and it was fun to go shopping for thanksgiving and I really haven't gone, but once for produce and once for an item I had to bring for a party since.
What is funny is I don't think about going to the store anymore. I'm no longer in the habit of going, so I have to make a concious effort now. It's a new way of thinking I am going to try and keep. |

I am glad it worked out for you!!
