How many real meals do you cook per week? I generally cook about 4x per week and the rest of the week is leftovers or takeout? And, do you plan you meals for the week?

Normally DH does all the cooking and we were eating out to fill in the gaps. No more. I have cooked every day since last Wednesday. I haven't eaten out in almost a week. Must be some kind of record for me.

We usually only cook on Sunday nights. However, i cooked almost every night for about 35 years, so I am about "cooked" out!!

Someone cooks 7 evenings a week...lunches are leftovers, breakfast are no cook/hardly cook. snacks are no cook/popcorn...hmm less you count that DH has to 'cook' the yogurt to make it.
I do most of the cooking, but depending on UE (8months) DH still has to do quite a bit. |

At least 6 in any given week. Today I cooked about 3 weeks worth of meals ahead, but will still have to thaw, heat and serve sides with them. That counts, doesn't it?

If I have to clean up after it counts! (I hate dishes!)

I'm also single and cook once or twice a week. Usually on the weekends I make some sort of casserole entree and a pot of soup or a meal-type salad. Then another night I'll do something like broil some fish fillets or cook some burgers, typically enough for 2-3 meals.
I should get better abour freezing half the casserole right away. Usually I eat it until I'm sick of it or it's been more than 4 days and about 1/3 of the time I end up throwing some of it out. |

We cook usually 6-7 nights per week. Dh and I go out for dinner about once per month and order out the same. My mom and I share cooking responsibility (sometimes DH too, when he's not in school), but we almost always have a cooked meal for dinner. Leftovers are usually gone by lunch the next day.
We rarely plan ahead for meals. We usually figure out what we are having for dinner by late morning or early afternoon, then take it out of the freezer to thaw. We plan the meal around what we have in the fridge, garden, or cupboards. |

I cook every day with the exception of going out.
(Knack for the obvious, I know) Seriously though, we have cut way back on our eating out, so it's pretty much up to me. I do try to cook once and eat twice. Anytime we have leftovers enough for another full meal, I love to repackage the food into freezer baggies and "bank" them for another night. I consider this free food as far as my grocery budget goes. |

I've just switched my need to cook big meals and I'm still getting used to it.
I've been cooking or putting together at least..............3 meals a day for up to 6 people for years....and now, I don't have to except for the week ends, and then it is only 4 at the most. What a change!!! I try to really cook on Fri & Sat.........then I don't have to do much the rest of the week. I too, use the cook once, eat twice theory.........or cook once, eat for a week........even better. I'm big on putting food in the freezer to take out at a later date and do something totally different with. Mainly roasts, meats, etc...........already cooked packages of them in the freezer are my emergency meals.....we don't do eating out, nor do we do take out.... So, I guess I'm cooking about 12 real meals a week and eating the leftovers in between. Works for me. |

Here's how it works for us:
During the week, I eat breakfast and lunch at home every day, except about once a week when I buy myself lunch somewhere. DH grabs something at home for breakfast (granola bar, fruit, etc.) and eats lunch out every single day. I cook dinner probably 3 times a week. I'm working on getting it closer to 4 or 5. We usually eat out or order pizza on Friday & Saturday nights, and then Sunday - Thursday I always mean to cook but sometimes I just have a cruddy day and don't feel lke it, or I desperately need to get out of the house! I will usually cook breakfast on the weekends and one lunch. We usualy eat lunch out Saturday and/or Sunday. I'm actually a pretty good cook--not a gourmet chef or anything but a good midwestern wife-type cook. I'm very good at making something out of nothing and using up what we've got. I just need to be disciplined and do it more often! |

My husband cooks his own breakfast every morning and makes his lunch to take to work every day. I eat breakfast and lunch at home every day too. We do eat out a lot for dinner, but it is more the idea of going out somewhere. Plus, I am just plain tired of cooking. I have never really liked to cook, but I could never afford to eat out that much.

We probably eat takeout 1x a week and cook dinner 4x a week. My DH eats at home or brings his lunch everyday. I have been spolied by the cheap cafe at work and buy breakfats and lunch a couple of times a week. I'm spolied and won't bring lunch unless my hubby packes it for me, LOL. I too have been trying to be better about cooking. I broke the crock pot out last week and have been cooking up a storm ;-)
