Default Share Program

Does anyone else use the "Share Program"? It is a national program that is open to anyone. You pay so much a month and you get a box of food. There is a list of what the food will be and includes fresh produce. Plus there is a list of things you can get in addition. This is not a "low income" thing. It is more like a group discount thing. We joined locally a couple months ago and are pleased with it so far. The only requirement they have is that you do a couple hours of volunteer work every month. Not with them (although I guess you could) but somewhere in your community. It is done on an honor system.

I have watched the progress of SHARE as it moved to the west coast.........and was excited when I looked it up this month, to find it in WA state.......finally. However, it is two counties away, & woudn't be worth the trip to get the box of groceries.
The concept is great..........I called to see about the requirements of setting it up in my county. They are excited about getting further north & expanding here. But, I dont' have any sort of group in place already....thinking about advertising on Craigs list for a local group of people interested. Doesn't need a physical site, they say some groups distribute out of the backs of trucks!
I wouldn't mind the group buying power at all! And, the volunteer time would be a cinch. As I said, the concept is fantastic. I wish we could switch food banks to this type of mentality.
I tried volunteering at my local food bank, and had to quit. The attitude of the "employees" was so negative towards any of the "clients". They also handed out such small quantities of food when the supplies were absolutely bursting the seams of the storerooms and walk in freezer rooms.

In this are one of the groups got started by advertising at a local large church. I think it takes 100 people to get started and several churches could combine. Most will let you use them as the site too.
