my basil plant

my basil plant is being eaten by bugs terribly bad. does anyone know of any bug repellent that isn't harmful to me, the plant, or the bug? some kind of eco friendly repellent that doesn't actually kill the bug?
that sounds like a hard mix, but surely someone has made this by now ..?
or maybe some other kind of fruit that insects don't like, or soap ?
