The oldest surviving FA Cup was sold at auction for 478,400 pounds (879,780 dollars) - a world record price for an item of soccer memorabilia.

The cup, made in 1896 as a replacement for the stolen original, was bought by a telephone bidder at Christie's in central London.

Football (soccer to those in the US) is not only sport but a source of national pride! Footies is next to godliness and Her Majesty! So this does not surprize me at all.
