I've seen thismentioned elsewhere on the site - in the journals maybe? Anyway, I'm wondering who here has tried it. It looks interesting. Feedback? What's the shipping like? How much do you need to sell in books in order to make it worth your while?

I mentioned it after reading a post in the 5000 challenge from Akaivyleaf. You should check out the site. Although I'm just now in the process of my first transaction with them, it seems to function like a used book store...you enter the ISBN of the book you want to sell and it tells you if it will purchase it, and if so, for how much (multiple quantities allowed). If you want to sell it, you print out a prepaid shipping label (ebookdrop pays shipping), box up the books and send it via US mail. You can sell as many or as few as you wish. After receiving the books, they will either credit your Paypal account or send a check or money order to you.
The pros: You know immediately if your book will sell, and for how much. The prices seem consistent with what I had them listed on half.com. You box them up and they're gone. The cons: Out of approximately 100 books I tried to sell, they would only buy 10 (and practically no kids books). I sold 10 books for ~$45.00, including a 15-year old chemistry textbook from DH that's been sitting on a shelf collecting dust for $17! Not bad! Also, when I first checked out the site last Friday, they were willing to buy a particular book. When I went on last night to actually do the transaction, they were no longer buying it, so it may be worth checking every few months. Good luck! |

Ahhh...I wasn't clear on the shipping. So they pay shipping, eh? Then that does make it more appealing! Thanks for the feedback.
Edited to add... For the books I have listed at half.com, I'm better off leaving them there. They might take a while to sell, but most of them would go for less than a dollar at ebookdrop. Bummer. Would have been nice to box them up and send them on their way in one easy step. |

What types of books are you selling? I've tried several genres and so far they haven't accepted anything I've tried. I tried crafts, health, mystery, science fiction, finance and romance. Some are pretty new and by well known authors.

I will look into this site. I've had great success with Amazon.com for book sales. But if this site pays for shipping, I will check it out. Thanks for sharing this information
Cheers! |

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm anxious to. Some of the books I have, they aren't purchasing, and by the same token, they aren't selling on Amazon or half.com either. Some of the other books I'm disappointed in how low they are willing to buy them for, but some money is better than no money and its going to my 5000 challenge. Considering I didn't pay for the vast majority of the books in the first place, even a dollar is profit.
Since I haven't actually done a transaction, I wondered about their payment to the seller, so I'm willing to try it for 5 bux or so... |

Mine was a mixed bag...I've had luck with textbook-types (Chemistry, calculus, and economics). Just a couple of bucks each (except for the chem book which went for $17!) but much better than nothing. I also had some success with "off-the-beaten-path" children's books (Not the Dr. Seuss type, perhaps they have too many of those). I found it to be entirely hit or miss, but it doesn't take that long to enter the ISBN and find out, and at least it's a done deal. In my case, the books have been listed at half.com for a while and haven't sold, so why not?

Wow, whoever wrote about the $17 book hit it very lucky. For giggles and grins my sweetie, who used to work at Oxford University Press in NC, typed in a few of his ISBNs. An OUP book that we know a book seller would buy for $100 came in at $4.
Don't get me wrong. I think that if you're decluttering this is a near perfect service - getting paid to clean - but if you're hoping for a nice surprise, good luck. |

I tried a few books after reading your posts and realized that after talking to ebookrop.com on there online chat service that there back end system is growing - so while all books can't be accepted they are gradually adding more to there system.
I ended up entering 50 books and could sell 15 to them., I also got my paypal money of $95 which has gone on to pay my cell phone bill for 2months, so I am certainly think they are a reliable company. I love the free shipping label feature - also i the fact that i can clean up some room at home instantly and ship it to one location is better than posting it on amazon or ebay and then shipping each book one at a time. i would certainly refer ebookdrop.com to others - it's convenient at least... |

Thanks very much for telling us about this site. I'm planning on cleaning out my old books this weekend. Would much rather get a few dollars for them than just taking them to the Goodwill (although that's a nice thing to do). I've already shared this website with lots of friends, who are also excited about it.
If you have old cell phones lying around, there is a similar website that buys them (works just like this book website). It is called cell4cash.com. I just sold 4 old phones for $72. |
