Default Have you ever saved anyone else money?

Although my friends often ask me for advice on saving money, it doesn't seem like a lot of them take any of it to heart. BUT the other day I had a good friend came up to me and thank me for saving her family a few hundred dollars a month. She had taken many of my suggestions at reducing costs and quietly implemented them without making a big deal about it. I was so surprised and happy!

Do you know of instances where you have saved people money?

I find that people will ask, but none want to be inconvenienced by the whole thing.

My mom is pretty frugal, and I saved her a couple hundred dollars. We both got puppies around the same time, but we live in different towns. My vet charged $90 to spay my dog- and hers wanted $360!! Needless to say, she's coming to my vet to get her dog fixed.

That's about it, saving money takes a little forethought, and I find that folks usually like the idea, but don't actually want to do anything.

Yes, right now I would like to save 2 people $5. I have a "back to school rebate" from Post Cereal. Requirements - buy five post cereals, any variety between 8/14 and 10/31 send UPC's and original cash register receipt. In a confidential forum I don't know how to handle this so I guess I would request a SASE to my home address unless someone can think of another way to handle this. I was very lucky today: Meijer (our grocery chain) had 5 boxes for $8 and then A free 39 Oz Maxwell House coffee, I had 3-$1coupons for one box and one $1 for 2 boxes. And the $5 rebate. Praise God!!!! Praise God!!!! Free cereal, free coffee, and a take home of 63 cents after the stamp.

The other day at the grocery store I saved a mother of two kids money on school supplies by pointing out that she could get cheaper notebooks in an other part of the store. The section she was looking at would have cost her at lot more for 40 sheets of paper. The 70 count spiral notebooks were $.10 each compared to the 120 count for over $2.00. I don't have kids that age but I did pick up some myself.

I just did some shopping on Saturday and had 2 extra coupons for 20% off of one item. I just gave them to the people behind me. It made their day. I figured since I wasn't going to use them I'd share. I also gave 2 people $30 (2-$15 off of $30) They were expiring and I didn't like any of the clothes and they each had a stack.

I once gave a very good friend of mine some airline miles so she could travel within Central AMerica...I wasn't going to use them and they were going to expire...giving them to her also "reactivated" my account, so that I still have 18,000 miles available today!... I also helped my daughter's teacher get a special rate (to which she was entitled!) on a flight...that saved her about $179!.....I have saved the company I work for about $2,000 in translation services (although, I probably have caused them some expenses due honest mistakes! , so let's say we're even!)
I have lent my car to my cousin and my sister whenever their cars have been in the shop for long periods (1 week+)...they have returned the favor, too!

I figure everytime I give something to someone on freecycle I am saving them money.

There are a lot of great money-saving posts in this forum. Don't forget everytime you post an idea or suggestion, someone else is likely reading it and using your idea to save themselves a few bucks.

I just share what I learn with others. Whether they implement it or not, I might not ever know... but I feel good about passing it forward

I try no end with my best friend who REALLY needs to implement savings measures but it just goes in one ear and out the other. She's the type that the moment money hits their hands they have to spend it, meanwhile they have NO savings and no real assets but truck and CC bills out the wazoo.

Frustrating!

Make her a book of all the tips you personally use and explain why you use them. This way the next time she complains bout not having enough money you can always tell her to read the book and tell her you don't want to hear it until she has read it.

I wish it were so simple with her, I've given her many books, websites and even offered to help her set up a budget but she won't take me up on the offers. It's gotten to the point that it really is effecting our friendship which is sad, but when one day she tells me she made $100.00 selling veggies and bought linoleum and paint for the bathroom but the CC payment is going to be late I just try to let it go right by. It's just going to be so sad when her hubby retires and it gets worse.

If she is not going to listen to you then there is nothing more you can do. Now you have to make a decision do you stay friends with her and listen to her gripe or end your friendship and not have to put up with it anymore?? The choice is yours.

I introduced a co-worker to shopping at Aldi's--she honestly thought only people on Welfare or food stamps were allowed to shop there... I finally convinced her I was on neither, and if that was the case, why were flyers sent out in ALL the local newspapers? That was 7 years ago, and she has shopped there since!
I have also saved my elderly neighbors some money by changing a tire, and raking leaves-well-she gave me a cherry pie for the leaves, but-the lawn service she uses wanted $40 to do it. I wanted her leaves!!--for my compost pile.

I helped a buddy paint his house. I won't even tell you what the painters wanted. Detailed another friends car and then he helped me do mine. So I guess I have saved people some money.

I helped my grandma get a pfizer drug card I just seen it advertised & called it & it saves her a ton on prescriptions now she dont remember I did this for her but thats ok it saves her money & thats all I care about. And I have another friend who is single with 2 kids & I give her coupons & rebates & stuff all the time & have taught her how to combine. I had a friend who taught me that so I just feel I am passing it on.
