There were really nice stories about the Oreck vacumn company, which I didn't even realize before manufactures all their vacumns in the USA, they really went all out for their employees.

Thanks for sharing about Clorox, it's the only brand of bleach I have ever purchased.

I tried a bargain brand once. Only once. I'm a loyal Clorox person too!

There are many great companies that back their products...most of the time all you have to do is call their 1-800 # and explain the problem. I have done this with Rival, Zatarain's, and even General Foods when online coupons don't all print out. Not only do they email within 24 hrs but they also send out an additional packet of coupons for all types of products/brands they make. Any company that has great customer service gets repeat business as it makes all the difference that your not just $$ signs to them, but consumers.

Speaking of service: Lands End has a 'Whatever. Whenever. Always.' unconditional gurantee for their items. A friend in college had a sweater from there for 4 years that started to stretch b/c of how she washed it, and they replaced it no questions asked. Pluse, they have an overstock area online that, as of today, has "782 items found in Overstocks for 'under $10' ". Hmmm... Holidays are coming...

We should start a list of absolute guaranteed items, or great service companies, that way everyone will know what's the best bet when they come across it in a thrift store or yard sale.

Eddie Bauer also has a lifetime policy.

I had a jacket of theirs where the stitching was coming apart. Took it to the store and they sent it on to Washington state(?). Anyway, they called me to come pick it up from the store I had dropped it off. Couldn't believe my eyes! Not only did Eddie Bauer re-stitch the item, they had cleaned AND pressed the jacket! It looked brand new!

First rate, in my book.

I'm coming into the Cutco discussion late but just wanted to add that I know from experience that they do back up their knives. (Also, my husband works for them, just so you know).

A librarian friend had some knives that are at least 30 years old and had my husband take them in to be repaired. A couple of them had gouges out of the blades (no idea what she used them for!). Cutco gave her new ones to replace them. They really do have a good service record.

They are very expensive knives, but they do stand behind them.

Just to second the Cutco knives they are really good, I keep trying to get my mom to send them in, but we use them so often I don't know if we can spare them.

I'm a huge fan of REI, I've gotten a few things on sale, and bought some raingear from them. It's gotten worn out a few times and they've always replaced it for free. Love my foulweather gear for boating too, excellent companies. (can't remember who right now, sorry)

I never put anything in a dishwasher tha is wooden or something that is fragile like crystal. Your life of the product depends on how you take care of it.

I was at Sears one day with my husband. A guy came in with several craftsman tools which had been abused badly. He received new tools!! I was shocked. After the guy left, I asked the clerk about it. He said that some people go to auctions and yard sales, buy old tools, and bring them in for replacement. I had never heard that one!

there are several brands that offer life-time warranties, so if you find them at a yard sale or in the thrift store they are especially good finds!

Yes, Sears will replace (lifetime guarantee) their "Craftsman" brand of tools. Both my father and I have used the replacement guarantee and NEVER had any problems or questions. Also Agway and Tractor Supply (outdoor/farm/animal feed type stores) sell their own "Branded" lifetime guarantee tools and such. I'm willing to pay more for a product with a good lifetime guarantee than think you'll be saving a few dollars and then wind-up purchasing the same item again.

We need to start a new thread topic of a list of all these companies with great service/replacement guarantees. Then it would be a reference for anyone who is looking for a specific item/company and they can guage the "worthiness/service factors of each company and it's products.

i don't suppose anybody has started any kind of list yet? i think it would be a really handy reference for people who prefer to purchase quality items with a good guarentee and great customer service even though they may cost more at the beginning...

Default GE and our dishwasher

I also have to say thank you to GE. Our dishwasher had really annoying wheels on the bottom rack that always bent. GE help desk sent out a big bag of wheels and a coupon for free dishwasher soap. I'm so happy with them!
