Default FlyLady - what is your opinion?

I hear a lot about this flylady. People seem to have pretty strong feelings either for or against her. It seems she is either the greatest thing to have come into their lives or overbearing. I don't know much about her. I just now went to her site and took a quick look around. I'm just curious what your opinion is on her and why you have that opinion.

I subscribe to her email list. I take what I like and leave the rest. I have gotten some help from being a part of her yahoo group, even if I don't wear lace up shoes every day all day. I'm a barefoot-in-the-house girl, what can I say?

Some messages I've internalized as a result of her emails?

*Doing something is better than doing nothing - it doesn't need to be done perfectly to still be worth doing.

*You can get an awful lot done in ten minutes.

*Create routines for yourself. When they become habit, you'll start doing things automatically.

*Keeping your sink clean really does help! It's weird, but true.

*Get rid of clutter! You can't clean/organize clutter - it is clutter!!

My mother is what FlyLady would call BO - Born Organized. DH is as well. I am not. So much of what FLyLady has to offer works for me.

Now, some of her messages annoy me, particularly the ones that just sound too 50's housewife. And while I would love to sign up for her friend Leanne's weekly menu deal, I'm vegetarian and it just isn't right for us.

I think that is what you have to do with all the publications or newsletters. If there is nothing of value, then it isn't worth your time. If there is values at least some of the time, take it and leave the rest.

I thought of one other thing that has been helpful to me - the notion of "hot spots". These are areas that clutter grows in uncontrollably if allowed to do so. Different people have different hot spots. I personally have way too many. I picked one area to start with and vowed that I would keep that area clean and clutter free, checking on it everyday to make sure that one slip of paper didn't start multiplying and growing out of control. It's working for me.

I like flylady. I'm like the above poster and take what I find works for me and leave the rest.

I think her outline is great and it's obviously very popular.

It's a bit rigid for me, but it's also a great motivator.

I joined flylady about two years ago and it has worked for me. I also think that some of the readers here would like her. She does talk about cleaning and organizing your home, but she also talks about organizing your finances. Her idea behind buying "stuff" is that if you don't absolutely love it, don't buy it! I have become very conscious about what I buy to put in my home and I am spending a lot less money because of that. The "stuff" around your house just adds to the clutter, which in turn adds to the mess that you are trying to rid your life of. Every March she has a running total on her website to see how much debt her members can rid themselves of. This past March the members paid down over $3,000,000 in debt!
