Re: Money saving we do in our house!?!?
I guess I'm lucky in that I don't pay for water. We have a well. I do conserve hot water.
I do need to conserve for the septic tank. We tried not flushing when it's just yellow, but the toilets get too dirty too quickly for me.

Re: Money saving we do in our house!?!?
I've heard of a saying some people live by (not us though): "If it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down." LOL. If we go to the toilet during the night for a number 1 then we won't flush until morning. Otherwise, we flush after every visit. Except for dd2 who sometimes forgets, when you visit next there's sometimes a "surprise" waiting for you in the bowl.

I have the kids wait when all three of us use it at once, but other than that I hate finding a suprise.

Re: Money saving we do in our house!?!?
I have noticed one month we did flush every use and our normal bill were we flush every needed visits our water bill went up by 2k gallons! We have lived in the house for 1 and a half now and it has ALWAYS been at 3k gallons a month and this was the first month we used 5k gallons and we only changed toilet use, so that is quite some savings I have noticed!

bleach is an awesome toilet cleaner (hubby taught me) just throw bleach into the toilet bowl let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes then flush, only thing your would need to do is wipe the tim seat and other which I have clorox wipes I use for that, makes cleaning a breeze for me!

I do that too but still need to take the toliet brush to mine. The smell keeps me from doing it all the time.

Re: Money saving we do in our house!?!?
Hey thanks, I was wondering about that today I need to clean the oven bad, I think it's either dirty or a coil is going out because it almost caught on fire today (I think it's the coil because the underside was burnt and it's dirty but it aint THAT dirty)

Re: Money saving we do in our house!?!?
I am glad to read others do things that I do. We also don't flush every number 1 but yes to number 2. Another way to save money on water is to fill empty milk jugs with water while you wait for the hot water to come. This water you can use to water plants and fill the toilet when you flush (lift off lid of tank and fill)

Make sure that the coil didn't break. Ours did that and at first you couldn't hardly see the break but boy when it caught fire by dropping to the bottom of the oven you sure saw it! also food under the coil will cause fires.

Re: Money saving we do in our house!?!?
I flush every time, and I don't pay for water. It comes indirectly through my townhome assessment. I prefer that CLR stuff. It works awesome on my toilets.
I did see this sign once: "In these hours of fun and sun, Never flush for number 1"

Re: Money saving we do in our house!?!?
One thing that we do is reuse our towels. Afterall when you get out of the shower you are clean! I hang them up so that they completely dry so that they dont' get mildewy. but you will use less towels just by reusing once.

our house is a rental and therefor the oven is about as old as I am.... The oven basically doesn't work anymore so I don't bother using it anymore, but if I need to again I'll make sure I send hubby to inspect the coils.. thanks for the heads up!
Since that post I scrubbed the oven sparkly clean!!! no more gunk!
