I'm a 35- I have to agree wiht most, this doesn't seem like an accurate test.

Re: Cheap test, How cheap are you
I had a 45. I agree that some of the questions were impossible. I would never invite someone I just started dating to a weekend away. Not my style.
I've also never been late to eat out because of refusal to use valet parking, 1) I don't tend to eat places that have valet parking and 2) I don't live in cities where parking is hard to find.

Re: Cheap test, How cheap are you
I scored 35.
"While you may not be the cheapest person on earth, you do have some stingy tendencies. In certain situations, you get a tight grip on that cash and there's no way you're letting go. At other times, however, you let the coins flow like a river. It might depend on your mood that day or whether you're making a conscious effort to tighten the purse strings because of a precarious financial situation. There's also the possibility that there are certain things you don't mind splurging on, while others just aren't worth the sacrifice for you. Whatever your situation, this is probably a reasonable, healthy way to be. Just keep that balance between enjoying your money and thinking of the long-term repercussions of overspending, and you should be on the road to monetary stability. "

45 was my score. Oh well I guess I'll have to work on being a little more frugal!

Re: Cheap test, How cheap are you
Hi~
I'm not cheap, but my aunt sure is. My mother was horrified when my aunt actually asked for the lipstick back that they used at the funeral home on my dead grandmother. I will never forget that story. Yikes!

Gosh you guys are really cheap! LOL I didn't think it was a very accurate test at all. I scored only 25 and I think I am MUCH cheaper than that! :-)

Re: Cheap test, How cheap are you
I got a 55 but I also think some of the questions had no reality to my life such as the hotel one, valet parking, etc. Did they expect cheap people to stiff waitresses?

I think that ethics also plays into this. Not tipping for good service or leaving the table when the bill comes is just plain rude. I would never buy an item of clothing, knowing that I was going to wear it and return it...clearly not the right thing to do.

Re: Cheap test, How cheap are you
I absolutely agree with Robex. I have neber undertipped, but I might go out to eat less often, always get tap water, eat cheaper items, eat at cheaper restaurants, etc. I am always dismayed at how frugality gets mixed with cheapness. Going out to eat, I will sometimes offer to pay for friends not doing as well, not run to the bathroom! Of course I am washing zip loc baggies and using powdered milk and not having cable to have the money to do so.
Some questions were more focussed on a willingness to be unethical. (Although I must say I don't have a problem with re-gifting; I will tell the new recipient though, and not pass off as my purchase.) If a fast food place (visited rarely, mostly on 5 hour plus drives) gives me lots of ketchup, I will certainly keep and use it, and maybe even squeeze the packets into a larger ketchup bottle. But I would never ask for extra ketchup that I was not actually going to use with my meal.
And a small gripe......some frugal people don't, or rarely, use coupons. Amy Dazycyn the Frugal Zealot is one. I buy a lot of items in bulk, many items in generic/store brands, and don't get a newspaper. So while I may save some by couponing, it would be effort for not as much return.

Re: Cheap test, How cheap are you
I agree with couponing we too buy a lot of store brand items and when I do have coupons for the name brand items I always forget. So for us couponing is not for us.

45 as well!
This test clearly wasn't written by a frugal person or they would have constructed the questions differently. ;-)

Re: Cheap test, How cheap are you
My goodness I got an 80 - heres what it had to say - I must say, I'm no ebenezer scrooge!! I'm very generous! hee hee
"You put Ebenezer Scrooge to shame with your miserly ways! You carefully monitor every cent that passes through your hands, and go to extra lengths to get the very best deal on almost everything. Either you've got a huge fortune stuffed under your mattress, or you've been living on an extremely tight budget. If you're forced to be stingy because of your financial situation at the moment, then you should be proud of the innovative strategies you've developed for cutting costs - as long as you're not expecting others to take up the slack, or creating uncomfortable social situations. If you can't pay like the big guys, don't play with the big guys! If, on the other hand, you've got plenty of cash, you should learn to lighten up a little. Money is only a means to an end, after all."

Re: Cheap test, How cheap are you
I scored 20
I guess it's because when I'm out, in a situation with people, I am not cheap. I try to be cheap quietly, and limit the amount of time I am in situations where I don't want to be cheap.
