Free Pizza

Dominoes had a special last night (Tuesday) Buy one get one free. We took the second pizza and wrapped it in aluminum foil, put it back in the box and stuck it in the freezer. I will defrost and reheat for another meal within the next two weeks.

I know, Dominoes doesn't sound frugal, but it is a treat at our house 2 or 3 times a year.

I used to work at Dominoes and can tell you for a fact, that most stores will "half bake" that 2nd pizza if you ask them too. That makes it nice for when you remove it from the freezer to put it in the oven. No extra charge for the half baking, and it helps prevent it from getting burned when reheated.

I just had to share the outcome of the "free pizza". I left it in the aluminum foil, defrosted about an hour and put it on a preheated gas grill for about 30 minutes. It was delicious. The crust was crispier. We decided the pizza was actually better the second time.

I agree! I think Pizza is always better the second time around. I really don't like putting it in the microwave...I think the microwave adds bad taste to some foods...but the oven I think would add a better "Baked" type taste to it.

I am sure everyone is aware that they always have "2 for Tuesdays" by one get one free. But if you didn't there is the tip. I was told that you have to ask because they do not advertise it.

I had got some Coupons for Papa John's for a Fundraiser for a Girl here at work. They are $5 and you do not get a 'Free Pizza' with Order but you do get Free Breadsticks and Chicken Fingers...so I guess it is still a good deal.

My little boy and I adore pizza! We always take advantage of the "buy one get one" deals with the pizza companies, as well as any free breadsticks, dipping sauces, etc. They all can be wrapped and frozen for use at a later time.

We live in a small town so we don't have Dominoes or anything like that.

Our pizzas cost us $10 (one topping) up to $15 each... no being frugal there!

Shaws, the grocery store we shop at, has a new store brand out called Essencia (sp?). They have a very yummy frozen pizza that tastes a lot like delivery (much more so than Digiorno, we find!)... so we try to cut costs by buying some of those instead when they are on sale (as cheap as $3.99 each!).

I started making pizza from scratch instead of ordering from a pizza place. Depending on what I pay for the cheese and what toppings I use, two huge pizzas cost about $5 or $6 (compared to $25 or more from a pizza place). I make pizza about twice a week.

I use my bread machine to make the dough. I just use spaghetti sauce for the sauce (usually Hunt's brand, because that is what I can find cheap). I found pepperoni at a local discout store (probably 10 lbs for $11-the package was huge, but there wasn't a amount on the label). I also found cooked chicken pieces (like the kind you would put on pizza) at that same store (can't remember the exact price, but it was about $11). I made pizza for this class (about 10 people) and everyone raved about how good it was. My kids eat store bought pizza or pizza place pizza and they tell me how much better my pizza is.

Edited to say: We live in a small town also. We have a Figaro's and a local expensive sit-down pizza places, but we don't have Domino's in our town either.

I do not have a breadmaker, but I sometimes make pizza at home as well. I use the Jiffy boxes of pizza dough. They are really cheap, usually 3 for $1, sometimes even 4 for $1.00. I like to use 2 boxes for one large pizza, otherwise I find the crust is too thin (not fond of thin crusts!). But when I used the two packages, my hubby loved it!

What's even better for us is that my husband loves one topping pizzas better than more toppings, so I usually use fresh mushrooms. He does like a LOT of cheese though...

Hey can you freeze homemade pizzas? How and for how long? We just bought a freezer so we would have the room for it, and it would be good to have them on hand.

We have a pizza place in town that has $5 large 1 topping pizzas everyday they are good pizzas too.

Good point on half baking a pizza. Giordanos in Chicago will half bake a pizza if you want to take it home and finish the cooking. Heck they will even Fed Ex you a frozen one anywhere in the country. Of course that is not being frugal at all but if you have a craving for Chicago style...
