Default Timeshare resale

Okay. A friend of my parents came to me because I'm the "eBay queen". (Not really, but when limited to the scope of my family I probably am). Anyway, he wants to sell his timeshare and I'm waaaay out of my league on this one. It seems like the ones on eBay (Breezy Point, MN) are going for prices like $30 + $400 in closing. That seems crazy considering Breezy Point is trying (sucessfully) to sell them for $6000. Can anybody help me here? Should I encourage this friend to list it on eBay, if so, how? Is there a better way to re-sell a timeshare? Do they really depreciate THIS MUCH?? Please help me

Timeshares are horrible when it comes to reselling - that's about all I know. Make sure your friend isn't expecting a ton back.

Oh, timeshares are the worst! Yes, they really do lose that much value and if he's paying high mainenance fees with a not so good date, then he may not be able to give it away. An alternative is giving it to charity and deductiing the value on taxes. Jeffrey has a good article on this which he calls the timeshare trap which seems very appropriate for these.

Well, I think he decided to donate it for the tax deduction instead of trying to sell it. I've been to lots of timeshare presentations and they're always talking about how you can get your money out again and how they appreciate in value -- I don't know how (these) timeshare salespeople sleep at night . . .

ebay will be the worst place to try and sell it, there are other ways of selling and you will get alot more money, I know here (in orlando) are real estate offices here that will re sell it!
