Default Reduce Electricity Use & Save Time with Iron-Free Clothing

When it comes to frugal living and our money saving tips, you might think that we’re being a bit nit picky, giving you ways to save money on what might seem like a small scale. But think about each and every one of those money saving tips, like the little ways you can save power, and then combine them. Yes, that’s right: you can save thousands of dollars a year. Buy iron-free clothing. Simple, isn’t it? If you buy iron-free clothing then you will not only save electricity and reduce electricity cost for your household, but you will also save time. Time is money and who likes ironing anyway?

Another technique that you can use when cutting down on flat iron use is to simply fold your clothes and put them under pillows. This would be quite useful if you need to take care of only a few clothing items.

Agreed. I haven't ironed for years. I would add "don't buy dry cleaner only" clothing as well.

I got a Rowente steamer. It's faster, easier and a lot more fun than using an iron. I'm almost positive it uses less energy and if not... did I mention MORE fun.

I enjoy ironing, and don't think it takes a lot of electric power. However, buying dry clean only clothing is not that bad...you can actually wash it in your dryer on delicate cycle. I have only used the dry cleaner once in my life. I like to save money and wash clothing at home! I have many other ideas to save money like this.

Actually, I can tell you that ironing DOES use a lot of power. I have calculated the energy use by using my Kill-a-Watt meter. Generally speaking, any appliance that generates heat or cooling is going to cost a lot. So yes, dryers, irons, a/c, space heaters, ovens and also vacuum cleaners are all energy hogs.

I can't stand ironing; it's my least favorite chore. Luckily, I'm underemployed now so no need to iron.

Er, what about the formaldehyde?
Quote:
Here’s how it works. When wrinkle-prone fabrics, say cotton for example, are soaked in resin containing formaldehyde, they gain added strength and increased resistance to wrinkling. Eva Osborne, project manager of women’s apparel at JC Penney, explained it to Consumer Reports like so: “The molecules line up like little soldiers and remember where they’re supposed to be.”
Some people have allergic reactions to formaldehyde; some people are weirded out by wearing embalming fluid (even if miniscule amounts).

Most definitely agreed.

Cost is a bigger factor to me with dry cleaning, but I hate the hassle factor of both ironing and dry cleaning. We avoid both.

I'm not thrilled with ironing either and I tried washing the dry cleaning item in the dryer, etc. It was ruined. I just avoid the dry cleaning clothes.
