Default Zoysia Grass for Lawn Savings

I have been reading about Zoysia Grass. Low maintenance and low need for water. It is said to crowd out weeds. I have seen ads in several mags. Anyone here know anything about this stuff? It sounds too good to be true.

Post Re: Zoysia Grass for Lawn Savings

It does crowd out weeds. However it dies off from about October until Mid april/may in North Carolina at least. I just helped someone remove all of the Zoysia grass they had on the lawn. It is not very desireable when working toward a nice landscaped area.

Some people really think that it is great because it is easy to maintain and grows in thick.

Decide why you are putting the grass on your lawn. If it is for only soil erosion go for it. Other than that it is not a very friendly grass to work with.

Zoysia really does better in certain climates even if they claim to do well in almost all. There are other low maintenance grasses. such as buffalo grass. Check with your local experts and see what they recommend for your climate and usage need.

my MIL has this type of grass. She loves it. I on the other hand am not crazy about it. It is really think but it stays green longer out here compaired to most grass. After so long of it being in and if you like it you can plug some of it and transfer it to another area. I think it just depends on your climate on how well it will do.
