I did something this weekend that was not frugal at all. Since me and my dh have had our dd we have only gone on a hand full of dates and this weekend was one of them. We spluged on dinner and a movie without her. It felt so good just to be a couple last night and not be mom and dad. Yes the money could have gone elsewhere but like I said before it felt so good just to be a couple.

You have to have some time away from the kids. I look at the cost of an occasional night out as being way cheaper than couples therapy.

I go to several mom's morning/night out's a month (usually two, maybe one more if a friend needs to escape for a while). I count them as "mental health" expenses, they keep my from going crazy!!

I second the idea that time with the spouse is frugal, saving on future therapy bills (for you or the kids)

I also use my a/c during the summer with a few fans so the a/c is not constantly running. When I do laundry I try not to run the a/c while using the washer because I know that will pull more electricity when both are on.

If you can do your laundry during non peak usage times than that may help you get your electric bill down. You may want to invest in a dryer rack/s, I know you can find them at Target, Walmart and some hardware stores. If you have two bathrooms you may want to hang some of your clothes from the tension rod that your shower curtain hangs from or you can buy one from Target, Walmart or a hardward store.

our realtor has it in our lease that we can not use drying racks it is a joke I know they are so freakn' picky. I can't even hand wash my dishes according to them but they won't fix my dishwasher. I wanted to get a clothesline but UGH the homeowners assosiation says no to that according to them it is an eye sore.

How would they know if you handwashed your dishes and not use the dishwasher???? And how are they going to know if you use a drying rack, do they do inspections of the condo's???

Eyesores my **s they just want to pretend to the world that know one has laundry that needs to be dried...I love clotheslines and I like neighborhoods that have them.

they do annual inspections so I have to hide my dish rack so they don't say anything. I can't wait til we can move into a house w/ a yard. I love clothes lines too it would save lots of money and I seem to get softer clothes with the liquid softener and then hanging them outside. We are only here til next yr school end. They tried giving us and told us our rent was going up from $675 to $1000 a month when we know for a fact NOONE here was paying that. A friend of mine called and questioned them without tell them our names and they changed it very quickly. And they knew who it was they were only trying to bs us and they thought she was a lawyer LOL. it was funny they called me when she called to tell me so I know they were doing it on purpose LOL. No biggy now it is all fixed and this is our last yr here. we are WAY cramped. going to try to get a 4 bedroom house next for under $1000 a month. Another one of my friends lives a block away in the same complex as me and her lease is even more strict. They even charge her for ALL repairs if they are her fault or not. We are learning the hard way cheaper is not always better ugh

Wow, that is insane, momma4. I can't believe they would berate you for a clothes drying rack or a dish rack. What about delicate sweaters that you can't put in the dryer? Or wooden utensils that shouldn't go in the dishwasher? Completely moronic. I'm glad you're moving, hang in there!

The least frugal thing I do is daydream about new things I would like to have and then research their prices online. I always get a good deal on things, but if I wouldn't look in the first place, maybe I wouldn't buy!

Our satellite tv costs heaps and what do you get half the time, 100 channels of cr*p. I would love to get rid of it but dh won't and besides we are locked in to a 2 year contract which doesn't expire until June 2006.

My personal vice is wine. I love the stuff. Gave up smoking 2 years ago. There's no deterrent like having your 10yo and 8yo crying everytime you light up and telling you that they don't want you to die.

Red face Re: Least frugal thing you do?

That was a really good question because it really made me stop and think. I live very modestly, but i do splurge on fresh, organic produce, which tends to be more expensive than those sprayed with pesticides, but it's my health, so i think it's worth it.

Talking Re: Least frugal thing you do?

Believe it or not, Yard Sales! I spend way to much on junk I don't need but at least it is at a discount! Usually it works out in my favor but that is my fun time.
