Shoes
What would a frugal person do about shoes where the sole has worn through? Is there any way to put a new sole on it?
The way I walk wears away the sole at the balls of my feet. So while the upper leather part still has a lot of life left, the sole makes them unwearable. Water gets in, it hurts to walk in them. This has happened to multiple shoes and I have a bag of them by the door ready to be thrown out, but thought maybe I'd do some research if there's a way to salvage them.

A good, quality pair of shoes can typically be re-shod by a cobbler. However, unless they're a really nice pair of shoes that you really like, it's typically not worth the expense, as it can often be nearly as expensive to repair a set of shoes as it is to buy a new pair entirely. My father had a pair of shoes re-shod one time, and it cost him about $50 (about 10 years ago).

kork is correct. You can have the sole replaced but it may not be worth it. You just have to check your local shoe repair shop and find out.
I've never done it myself but I've never owned a pair of shoes for which it would be worth doing as the repair cost would be as much or more than I paid for the shoes. If I had a really expensive pair of shoes (which a frugal person wouldn't have), then it would probably make sense.

Ha. Yes. I tend not to pay more than $30 for my work/dress shoes.
The weird thing is that we moved to a small town but I can't find good, cheap shoes here. So when we drive to DC to see family that's when I buy my shoes. Strangely, the sales rack at the Macy's, of all places, has nice shoes for $30 and under

Shoes originally costing over $130. 'may' be worth the cost of re-sole, 1st ask the cost, 2nd ask to see what product they will use as many are v/poor quality, stiff and a non appropriate color. If the soles let in water...throw them out!
