I use McDonald's Red Box, $1 a movie, $1 a day...I hardly watch Movies so I see no point in going to a Video Store.

I do. We go to the movies less often than we would if it didn't mean paying babysitters. But I always (zzzz)look for coupons and almost always smuggle
my own food and drink in. |

We don't go to the movies and we no longer buy movies. As DH and I love movies, we just joined Blockbuster. It works for us (can watch when we want and don't have to keep track of anything) in our situation, but isn't a good solution for everyone.

Sometimes we look around on our dish networks movie listings for movies that are $1.99. That's not bad when you consider that you don't have to pick it up or take it back.

I like reading all the ideas here.
We do go to theaters and really love it. We go to one at a mall and it is clean and relatively new. This is our summer activity as here it is so hot in the summers. We actually go nearly every weekend. There are less interruptions in a theater for us than at home, I am prone to getting distracted or cleaning or getting up at home. We do not buy or rent DVD's anymore to save money and we have not gone in months to balance out our summer movie going. Now that I am more strict with spending I might purchase a movie I liked (hopefully at a good price) and watch it, loan it to sisters, then keep it to sell on ebay or have that option, when I walk out of the theater (even at matinee prices) I have nothing tangible to show for my entertainment dollar. |

me and my husband go to the dollar movies probably about once every 4-5 months.. dollar movies here cost about 1.25 per person. we sneak in drinks and sandwiches and have a great time at it!!!
We usually go to friends houses to watch DVDs or borrow them from friends and parents if the movie is something that cant be seen on the big screen. |

alwaysbudget: You can also get movies at your library plus a whole host of different types including ones about traveling, National Geograhic. It's a good way to get little ones involved and it's a nice night out. I know that at our library, we can request books online and we can pick them up at the closest minilibrary to our home.
I've also seen that Publix rents movies, but they must be hiding it well because I don't see them. |

I prefer to think of movies as a reward for saving money, not something to cut back on. I only go once every couple of months but I only go see the films that would mostly benefit from being seen in the cinema and wait for the DVD else wise.

I'm not totally against going to movies. I agree with Dave that it can be a reward once in a while. I also think that going out is good for you. You can find matinee movies, not eat at the theatre, etc. It has been a long time but I will go to an action packed movie that you can appreciate on the big screen and its sound.

Movies are really expensive but I enjoy going every once in a while. And some movies are just better on the big screen. We have a cinema & drafthouse here that shows movies that are already on video, so they only charge $5. You can get beer and food...really fun way to spend time with friends if you want to get out of your own living room. I limit how many movies I go to but really do enjoy it on occasion.
