For a family $40 a day per person. not a chance. when we go on a BIG family vacation it can be 10 people thats $400 !! nonono. its eat at the timeshare for breakfast and lunch and then we do dinner maybe 1 in 3 nights. otherwise eat in. when we DO go to dinner its $300 plus ! thats why we only go to cool places and only 1 in 3 nights or so :-)

I gotta ask where in the world do you eat!!!!! Even if we take the kids and go eat dinner for the 6 of us it is never over $45. But even for the adults you would be spending $30 per adult for each meal. that is a pricey restaurant.

If you go to Mortons its usually about 125-175 (depending on if you get a bottle of wine) for 2 people. I think my last business trip my dinner was 43 or 46 bucks. My as well if the company is paying right?

I have expensive tastes in food. Some of it picked up from having companies pay for my nice dinners. Either way, that is the one thing my parents never skimped on. Had crap furniture and a crap car and non-name brand clothes but I had a great education and ate quite well.

I don't think the show was designed for the frugally minded individual, because in its own container, 40.00 a day sounds like a lot to spend on feeding one person. But taken outside of the thought of being frugal, the show really does showcase how you can go to an expensive place and eat economically and still have their best items (like eating an appetizer sampler vs dinner) and a signature drink. Or it shows how you can have a filling breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner, like the "locals" and still come out with change- even after the tip.

Would I realistically spend 40 bux a day on vacation or at home? nope, but its nice to see some of the "local favorite dishes" in various cities, and choose where to go to blow the budget if necessary.

I too like good food, I'll pay a little more for it to be better than run of the mill fare, especially when I'm out of state on vacation. I can't see going to Maryland for instance and not having She-crab soup, or crabs. I can't see Going to New Orleans and not partaking of some authentic cajun dish so I'm going to have to pay for it, but to me, thats part of vacation.

Yeah, she's gaining weight with all of her adventures but I like her laugh too, and the fact that she's young and energetic. No more dry Julia Child...(not speaking ill of the dead, but you know, vibrance is good)

Well for us we can go to a pizza chain down the street & thier large pizzas are $5 everyday so if we get 2 we have plenty. We can also eat chinese for about $20 & still have leftovers we live in IA so things are probably cheaper here than say CA or something. If we go to the fanciest restaurant around its usually around $40-45 which we dont do often.

I can't watch that show, nor can I watch "30 minute meals". The hostess talks too much, too fast, and becomes irratiting after a while.

Sounds like an interesting show. :-) Yeah, I cook and we eat in our timeshare too...lunch is about the only time we eat out and then not always. We do try to eat one dinner out in a week if we can just to try the nicer restaurants in an area but we try to keep the costs down.

I think the foods she buy regularly on $40 a day are in such gigantic portions. They could easily feed three people.

This whole concept cracks me up. I feed a family of 6 for $100 a week. $40 a day is out of the question!
