Using coupons to get free travel size
I've started to use coupons to get free travel products. When you get a coupon, check to see if it says "good on any size" If it does, then you can probably get it for free or almost free if they offer it in a trial size. My local Target store has a huge selection of travel size products.

I don't know if it is a nationwide thing, but both my wal-mart and target take coupons.

Re: Using coupons to get free travel size
In DE, both Walmart and Target accept coupons as well. In fact, I don't know of any stores that don't accept coupons. What I HAVE run into is stores not accepting printed computer coupons because of so-called fraud. I think that issue has been resolved though. Whatever, it's worth a try!

Re: Using coupons to get free travel size
We have 2 dollar stores in our town. One takes coupons and the other does not. Different owners.

Re: Using coupons to get free travel size
As gifts for kids heading off to college or traveling, those trial sizes can come in very handy. After the parents did all their back-to-school shopping I give sibs kids plastic containers, usually the right size for 1/2 gallon beverage mixing, and fill it with trial/travel sized items. Seems to help out as the kids are first learning to manage a budget without a fall-back position. It also gives them the chance to try a number of items, and see what works for them. A pretty basket set in a bathroom or guest's bedside table (include a flashlight!) can feel very welcoming too.

Re: Using coupons to get free travel size
I know most people here probably use coupons often, but in case anyone is new to coupons I thought I'd mention that some stores make coupon use particularly appealing. I went to Wal-Mart today, and picked up 3 toothbrushes along with other items. I had $1 coupons for all 3, and all the prices were under $1. Toothbrush 1: $.93-$1 coupon=$.07 in my favor. The other 2 were $.96 each, and again I used $1 coupons, for a net gain of $.04 each. I do buy this way although after tax I end up paying a small amount. Anytime we get overstocked on toothbrushes, or similar items we make a run to our food pantry. Items like these can't be purchased with food stamps, and are often highly prized contributions.

Re: Using coupons to get free travel size
I USE THESE ALL THE TIM E TOO FOR THE TRIAL SIZES AT WALMART..
BUT. WHEN IT SAYS $1.00 OFF PRODCUT AND IT SAYS AND SIZE WALMART WILL USE IT AS LONG AS YOU ARE BUYING OTHERS THINGS ALONG WITH IT.
BECAUSE THEIR TRIAL SIZES ARE LIKE .97 CENTS AND THE COUPON IS FOR $ 1.00.. THEY WONT HONOR THE
COUPON UNLESS YOU BUY SOMETING ELSE. FOR THEY CANNOT GIVE YOU $ BACK FROMA COUPON....
THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE... MARIE

Re: Using coupons to get free travel size
Our stores here will only give you the item free if it is less than the coupon--they don't give you the difference back, and you don't have to buy paid items to get it. If the coupon is for a dollar, and the item is 75 cents, I don' t get the 25 cents back. But, in Missouri-you do pay tax on the full price of the item, so it would be 84 cents in my town. In some states you only pay tax on the amount you are paying for the item after the coupon, and it other states if you get the item free, you pay no tax. I have gone to our dollar store and used $1 off coupons for shampoo that is 75 cents a bottle, and walked out of the store with no money exchanged, as I bought no other items. Thats a good feeling.
