Default What do you use vinegar for?

I use white vinegar as a window cleaner and a stain remover. It is so much cheaper than buying the brand name cleaners and stain removers. I'm curious what other people use it for or in replace of.

Science

We go thru vinagar like crazy. between fish and "bubbles" and recently we put it in the drain (with baking soda and followed by boiling water), not quite as good as the spensive stuff but safer and more fun to use.

I am one of those weird people who have a backlog of cleaning supplies so I have never tried it as a cleaning thing.

I do too. We have new laminate flooring and I've found that vinegar is the best thing for leaving them less spotty.

I rinse my hair with cider vinegar. I have SUPER long hair and I always get compliments on it -- leaves it shiny and removes any residue from those other shampoos. Just remember to rinse well to remove the smell!

--we just got new laminate floor. Can't wait to try the vinegar floor cleaner!

I've been using half and half...maybe I've been using too much. I'll try the 1/4 next time. It does clean coffee machines great.

I saw this on TV last night vinegar and rice in crystal decanters with stains the rice is a gentle abrasive and the vinegar makes it shine. Did mine today it works.

Other uses for vinegar as per simplesavings.com.au:

Kill weeds with vinegar
To kill weeds simply fill a spray bottle with brown vinegar and spray directly onto the weed. It is particularly great for weeds that grow through your pavers. It works a treat, is environmentally friendly and safe to use around your pets and children.

White vinegar or ice for pain
White vinegar has long been used to relieve the pain of insect bites. Just dab on the bites.
There is also no better and cheaper pain relief than ice. One piece in the mouth and one on the bite will keep small children quiet for long enough to forget about the offending sting or bite.

Vinegar on sunburn
To ease sunburn pain - in fact it will completely disappear overnight - put vinegar on the burn and keep it moist. If it's sore to touch, fill up a spray bottle and spray it on. Otherwise you can wet a piece of cloth with vinegar and dab it onto the burn. The vinegar will remove both the heat and the sting! As long as you keep using the vinegar on the burn for a few hours (I've been known to fall asleep with a wet sheet on my arm!), the sunburn will be all but gone by morning. No more pain, no peeling - and a firm reminder to wear sunscreen!

White Vinegar definitely works well on pet stains - especially urine stains and odors.

I only clean with vinegar. I've read that undiluted vinegar is a good germ killer.

I use it as a fabric softener, along with some water and essential oil mix.

DISHWASHER DEODORIZER :

I use 1/4 cup vinegar and 1 tablespoon of baking soda in my dishwasher. I let it bubble a few minutes then run a rinse cycle and it makes my dishwasher smell nice and look shiney.

FLOOR CLEANER & FLEA COLLAR ALL IN ONE :

I also use vinegar to wash my floors, as a large flea collar for my cats & dog and being an animal lover I don't like the pesky fleas from outside or the neighbors in my home. I have found that the acid level in vinegar is too strong for the fleas and they just fall off my animals, when they lay on the floor I just washed. I found this out from one of my cousins. Now we never buy flea collars for our animals and besides some of the animals have a bad reaction to the medications on the collars and it irritates the neck of the animal so much some times that the fur falls out of place.

EASIER TO CLEAN THE OVEN :

I also find that after cooking in the oven, and something boils over the top of the roasting pan or pot, right after I take whatever out of the hot oven I replace a pan with hot water and vinegar and let it sit inside the hot oven over night and find it easier to clean the burn on spills.

Is there a difference between white vinegar and cider vinegar and what each can be used for or can they be used interchangably?

I use a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar every night in an eight ounce glass of water to reduce my cholesterol. I also use white vinegar to clean my coffee pot and other areas where mineral deposits build up. ( I have hard water with a high mineral content). I have used white vinegar for general purposes as well.

White vinegar is generally used.

When I used cloth diapers I read that using cidar vinegar was better for them. Not as harsh or something. Can't really remember. Cider vinegar is insanly more expensive than white vinegar.

I think cider is more for baking and cooking. They smell very different.

I should really use vinegar to clean out my humidifier, like the instructions say. Perhaps I will do that this weekend.
