Angry Gas up. What will you do to cut down the cost?

With the price of gas going up what are you doing in other areas to cut down cost due to the gas increases. The last six months I have cut down everything I can think of. One thing I think I am going to do is start hanging my clothes, instead of going on a long trip with the car I will find things to do in my area. Can anyone think of something else we can cut down on due to the price of gas? Thanks Renee

Walk, my dad has a rule less than 2 miles is walking distance. I have small kids so my rule is less than a mile round trip (or one way if we will be there awhile or there might be a ride home). But it still saves when heading around localy.

I have definetly cut down on driving I or the neighbors walk my daugther to school. And if we go anywhere in the car, I try to keep it close by home. I no longer go riding around for drives just for something to do if we are bored we go for a walk now or go to a near by park. I try really hard to combine errands so say I have to go downtown I go once a week instead every day or 2 times in the same week

Yikes! I just passed by the gas station and saw the shocking increase... $2.05!! up .06 cents since Saturday!!! This will definitely make carpooling to school (and walking to stores) more attractive.

On that note.. do you all think the gov't will cave in and unleash the 15 billion barrels of oil it's got in reserves for a crisis like this one?? Heehee

We have two cars that we used to use whenever...we now try to use the smaller car with better gas mileage exclusively except when the larger car is absolutley necessary. We've also made out errand and shopping runs into a once a week outing...no more daily trips.

I'm sure we'll continue to try and combine trips when we can, and avoid using the car when possible. As long as it's not pouring rain DH rides his bike to work. DD and I can work on walking/biking more and driving less.

Remember car pooling? You can also do it for running errands with others.

I like the car pooling for errands idea. I never thought of it and we live in a rural area. Nearly everyone we know needs to go to the city a few times a month to get things. (about 40 miles each way) If a group of us got together and called each other when we needed something in the city it could be a significant savings. My husband works in the city and his work provides him with a bus pass so he busses it. We try to make fewer trips to the city but sometimes we just have to go.

I am lucky I am a work at home mom that I rarely have to drive. I do try to combine errands and try to do then when I have to drop off/pick up from school.
